It's T-1 until Election Day. As communications pros and event planners, we are sending strength and success to teams on the ground. Why? Because we know all the minute details that make or break these high-profile events. Among the things this team is worried about -- and please add to the list -- are: ✔️ Steps and rugs -- Are speakers, especially those wearing heels, going to trip? ✔️ Pronunciation -- Do we have the names of people, towns and the like phonetically correct in the script and teleprompter? ✔️ Scripts -- Anything we need to include, cut, beef up or clarify to ensure we land the message as clear and strong as possible? What needs to be fact-checked for the 8th time? ✔️ Lighting/mics/thermostats -- We don't want people passing out, mics crackling or lighting that casts the candidates and other speakers in bad light. Let's run another test. ✔️ Logistics -- Whose driver or security team needs details about what door to take their principal to so they can securely enter and exit buildings? ✔️ Weather -- Will it be cold, rainy, humid? What do we need to have set up or on-hand to deal with that, especially for the ladies with long hair? ✔️ Food -- We need to ensure the speakers are fed, hydrated and at maximum energy levels to make the best impressions. ✔️ Signage -- Do we have the right signs throughout the event that we want to have most visible to those within and outside the space? Printed, not smudged, no typos, no glare. ✔️ YOUR ADDITIONS HERE In one of my earliest memories after leaving journalism for PR, my communications leader showed up at a beautifully appointed event space that had an outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas and said, "the umbrellas are wrinkled." And in that moment, I understood the smallest details matter to someone. And you thought our jobs were just about press releases and table cloths.... #Communications #PR #Events #VOTE

One of the biggest misconceptions about my work as a search consultant is that I have this Rolodex of agencies, and when a client reaches out to me, I just go into it and pull out a handful of options that fit their needs. The reality is I spend most of my time with a new client early on in the discovery phase, really getting to know their business goals and marketing priorities. We talk about the obvious things like the scope of work, budget considerations, and procurement requirements, but we also talk about their team culture, values, and internal dynamics. It’s not just about finding them an agency that checks all the boxes; it’s about finding them a long-term partner. ⬆ ICYMI, this was a snippet from my interview with AdForum a couple months back.
