While #cloudcomputing is a great and quick way to accelerate growth and testing, and expand resources and availability, it’s important it’s not be equated with traditional on-premise #virtualization that limits you to costly configurations that may or may not meet your ROI targets and may not even be used for a few years (plus the need for someone to manage them physically—which may be required for sensitive sectors like banks and ID providers etc..). Cloud computing infrastructure allows you to “flexibly optimize resources” enabling modern trends like #microservices, #serverless, and more active #security_monitoring and #event_logging. They even allow you to have your own physical servers dedicated just for you (like #IBM’s bare metal configuration for your #VPC). If done right, these resources provide huge cost-savings and are as secure as any on-premise server can get. However, it’s important we get the basics right so we don’t miss out on these potential benefits and to educate ourselves as much as we can. Also to hire people who know what they’re doing.. I had an IT guy telling me that their cloud VMs are very secure on the web, because they.. they are accessed via SSH 🤦🏽‍♂️😳 Well, you better enable SSH if you’re remotely accessing a VM! But that’s not what your website visitors use to access your website! SSL/TLS is used for “secure transfer of data between the browser and your website”. #SSH on the other hand is a “secure SHELL” which is what you use to LOG IN to a remote server/computer—typically via a #CLI. Clear, sir?
