It could be that many IDs either don't know any better or their hands are tied. I have worked with many, many SMEs who believe ID only assemble what they are told..ie they dictate every aspect of the course. IDs are just "secretaries " for the SME. IDs are ordered to follow instructions if they want to stay employed . IDs may not know the particular content they are working with, but they are masters of presentation, they know how to keep learners engaged and they know how to assess learning has taken place. They know how to parse out material and allow different learning levels to excel. One of the biggest obstacles is getting SMEs to understand that we actually know more about presenting their material then they do. I call it "stay in your lane" As an SME you tell me the technical aspects of the material and I will tell you the best way to present it. You stay in your lane and I will stay in mine.

Good elearning design is good UX design. Jesse James Garret's 5 Elements of User Experience can be used as a guide for setting up projects in Articulate Storyline. Structure, Skeleton, and Surface are three elements that directly apply to elearning developers. The Structure is the underlying architecture and interaction design. The Skeleton is about interface, navigation, and information design. Finally, the Surface is about sensory design with media, motion, and visual design. My newly minted “Next Level Design II” Articulate Storyline workshop examines UX design elements to help you create and plan the overall learner experience. What can you expect? Mastering the Master and Feedback slides, Reinventing Random Numbers, Motion Path Mayhem, Object States as Functions, Layers as Validation Containers, Introduction to how Storyline uses xAPI statements and more about how to bend Storyline to places you may not realize it can do. With all the buzz around Articulate's new AI Assistant, instructional designers are practically doing cartwheels to try it out. Who wouldn’t want an #AI sidekick to help create killer courses? But before we throw caution to the wind and upload everything from our company's deepest secrets to last week’s lunch menu, let’s hit pause for a sec. It’s all fun and games until someone breaches the database! That’s why doing proper info and data security assessments is like wearing a helmet before riding the AI rollercoaster. And while Articulate’s AI Assistant is an exciting new tool, it’s important to remember this is a completely different use case and data processing model than we’re used to. Just because it's from Articulate doesn’t mean it’s the same cozy platform we’ve been using for years. We’re talking about AI—whole new ballgame, folks! So let’s make sure our shiny new AI toys don’t accidentally leak any sensitive info. #edtech #elearning
