LESSONS LEARNED FROM A LIFETIME WORTH OF FAILURES: TAKE NICE OFF THE TABLE: Nobody wants it, Nobody chases it, Nobody rewards it, Nobody succeeds from doing it. Sure - be Professional, Polite, Respectful; but NICE is the Edsel of Emotions& Behavior. Quit doing it. It is NOT a compliment to be the 'NICE' Guy.

100% the heart of the company, and the reason it is difficult to imagine working anywhere else. Meaningful work, bounded by these five important and impactful words. People sometimes lose sight of the importance of what we do here, or discount their individual contribution; but the truth of it is as a company, our business, our mission, is to put people's lives back together after what are some of the most dramatic, traumatic and stressful events of their lives. Our claims people may not be firefighters, or EMT first-responders rushing in to the scene to stem the bleeding; but in many ways, the work we do can be (and often is) more impactful to the lives and well-being of our customers and their families. Accidents are unexpected, traumatic, disruptive. Accidents can be life changing. Accidents happen. We set things right again. We help people get back on their feet. That is the service we provide. In every role (business and IT), from claims, to product, to agent and customer service, we all play our part. Move forward, and live fully.

This paper provides a great summary of the impacts of CMS’s decision to recalculate Star Ratings, adjust QBPs, and allow plans to submit new bids. Plans eligible to submit new bids (by next Friday!) must decide how to allocate additional revenue, whether towards higher margins or enhanced benefits, while satisfying Total Beneficiary Cost (TBC) requirements, which may be materially adjusted as a result of a QBP improvement. We’re almost at the halfway point of 2024, and it’s always interesting to see what industry predictions have come to fruition as we continue throughout the year. In the past five months, I’ve noticed a heightened focus on the following areas previously predicted to influence the space. ⭐ Customer-Centric Development: Gone are the days when the customer wasn’t prioritized at every single touchpoint of product development. 🌟 Happy National Left Handers Day! 🌟 Not having experienced the challenges of being left-handed myself, I've become much more aware of them as the parent of a left-handed daughter. From struggling with right-handed scissors to the frustration of using spiral-bound notebooks, these seemingly small things can disrupt a learning outcome. Seems like a silly thing to post about, but it directly translates to my role as a learning professional. I always strive to keep the learner's experience in mind. Just as lefties need tools that work for them, every learner deserves content and materials tailored to their needs. It is the learning professional's responsibility to ensure our message is heard and understood, just as it's the learner's responsibility to approach the table with initiative and drive. As we enter Renewal/RFP/Open Enrollment season – a few thoughts on Ancillary Benefits comparisons… The most important thing about Life, Disability, and VB/Worksite Benefits is NOT that they are lower cost this year than they were at the last RFP. There are significant design flexibilities in these products that can be manipulated to achieve a lower price point - pay close attention to the following (among many others)... 1) Definitions and exclusions of Cancer, Heart Attack, and Stroke in a CI policy (do you have to have the “right kind” of cancer, heart attack, or stroke to receive a benefit?)       - Is Breast Cancer always covered at 100% even if non-invasive? - Is a Skin Cancer claim limited to once per lifetime or once per year? - Is Cardiac Arrest covered at 100% (in addition to Myocardial Infarction)?       - Is TIA Stroke covered?   2) Don’t forget to check the Any Occ Income Test, “And” vs “Or” Definition of Disability, “Prudent / Reasonable Person” language in a Pre-x, and Partial Disability Offset Formula in an LTD policy 3) Do the Voluntary Life rates straddle Table 1? 4) Does the Definition of Covered Earnings in Life, STD, and LTD match your current compensation model? 5) Have you considered the tax implications of Employer Paid LTD to an employee without a "Gross-Up" model? 6) Does the Hospital Indemnity policy have any Pre-x or Pregnancy Limitations? (the correct answer is "No") Employees only engage with these benefits at the worst times in their lives – let’s not save a few pennies per paycheck in premium and give up thousands of dollars in claims when it is need most. It is a terrible waste of money to overpay for Ancillary Benefits, but an equally terrible waste to underpay for them.
