How can you set your consulting rates as a writer?
Honestly? Everyone wants sure-fire answers to this question, but the reality is: there's no perfect price. As you're thinking about charging for consulting, think about what cost would motivate you to work with someone. If you know writing consultants, ask them how they got started and sussed out their pricing. But whatever you do? Don't go to Google looking for your answer. Make it easy on yourself and think about what *you'd* want and what matches your value. And go from there.

What are the best ways to negotiate a promotion as a writer?
Negotiating promotions in your writing career is crucial, *especially if* you've been working with certain clients for an extended period of time. In order to negotiate a promotion, you need to have: clear value, results, and an understanding of what objections might come up. Always document your work and the results it's garnered. Gather data around the impact your writing has had on your client, and make sure you're always tying it back to value in their terms. Objections are guaranteed when it comes to business. So know what might come up from their side, and know how you'd tackle any concern that comes up for them. And last but not least? Go into the conversation with confidence. You're in power just as much as they are.

How can you take a break from writing without losing momentum?
If anything — taking a break from writing never makes me lose momentum. It helps me gain it. Sitting at a desk for hours at a time, gluing yourself to your seat because you've set some unrealistic expectation or deadline in your head *isn't* going to help you get further. Knowing when to step away is. If you're in a groove? Keep going. But if you're losing steam? Get up, go run an errand, do a little yoga in the backyard, grab a book and go sit in the sun, go make yourself lunch ... whatever your "thing" is? Figure out what helps you creatively (and energetically) recharge. Your writing will thank you later.

How can you write with a conversational tone in blog posts?
Writing more conversationally boils down to practice, consistency, relatability, and knowing how to inject personality into your work. Sound complicated? It is, and it isn't. Writing in your unique style isn't easy. But if you focus on creating writing that's easy to read, understand, and shows off your personality? People are going to be drawn to it. Keep your work simple, keep it fun, get really good at editing for brevity and tone and you'll be on your way to conversational content.
