In 2018 I started freelancing, getting clients through my network and referrals (but that didn't last long) The first client I got right out the gate was a guy I worked with prior He then brought me on for my second project on a marketing campaign (referral) We made a verbal agreement that we would work together and he would get me referrals What happened next? I got ghosted No response to calls, text or email That's not even the worst part Worst part was because I was relying on him to get business my income went from good to $0 instantly! I was faced with the situation of not knowing what to do to get clients So I took the one skill I was good at (content) and started doing that online Specifically LinkedIn Was a bit slow at first but I learned some things those first few months Then I landed my third client...strictly cold market Honestly, it was an act of God how that worked out (a story for another day) Because of my content he saw the value I could deliver for his business So he hired me as a vendor to help with his Startup When he got his first client, he brought me on to help them with their marketing (referral) By this time I had registered ICAD Marketing as a business to make it official Then guess what happened? Made the same mistake again 🤦🏽‍♂️ Relying on network and referrals to get new business (You would think I learned my lesson the first time) Again revenues fell to $0 But this time wasn't so bad Because I knew exactly what to do to turn things around 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼-𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 ✅ And it worked! But even better this time! I have an Inner Circle Client who has 1 offer doing about $250k / month. Another he is re-launching that did $50k in the first 18 days. Dude's a beast. We've been going back & forth recently on: - The next 'version' of his person brand as he automates these offers, steps away from being the face & looks to move to a new level - How to position the brand v these offers & what content to create - Business & group structuring tying in all of the above & the long term vision for it all. Fixing your client retention will 3X your profit: (explained in 60 seconds): I’m a huge proponent of fixing client retention before anything else within an agency. Why? Because when you can 2x your retention, you 2x your revenue. And also when you 2x your retention, you 3x your profit. That’s because acquiring new customers is expensive. (1) Running ads (2) More cold outbound (3) Paying a lead gen agency And if it’s not a money expensive, it’s a time expensive. For example:  - Sales calls  - Onboarding  - Failed proposals  - Learning tendencies These are all things that don’t cost money, but they cost valuable time. And the more your clients churn, the more time/money you’ll have to waste getting things back to baseline. Takeaway here? Retention > Sales. Always.

HOT OPINION: Here's when you should NOT invest in a new website if you're planning on just updating the design of it and saying "Look, we have a brand." I met with a client two weeks ago who asked me if they should spend $40k on building a new website TODAY with us OR spend some time with their leadership team and engage us on a smaller scope of work to do the following: -Reproductize their services and look at what was most and least profitable -Address their messaging issues and clearly define who they are -Update their brand promise and their positioning statements -Build a voice and tone and internal communications strategy as well as an external communications strategy Yes, less agency work (half the quote) but WAY more impactful on building their business. And they may even decide to do this work internally and NOT use us. I could have sold them the website. It's end of year - and we want to end strong. But that's not what this client in the blue collar space needed. They need to do some real strategy work on who they are and whether they use us to do it or not, I'm not going to tell them investing in a shiny new website will fix their problems. If you don't do the strategy work first, you're literally just putting lipstick on a pig. Get clear on your story, get clear on your why and THEN build the shiny new site to get it out to the world. #marketing #branding #strategywork

If you've taken anything above 10+ sales calls, you'll probably start to hear the same objections being thrown your way. - Meeting quality - Calls booked - Ramp up process Go into Gamma and just make a short document explaining all of these processes and tell them you'll send it their way. I just got off a meeting with a brand that has 90% of its sales coming from sponsored ads. No SEO or organic ranking strategy in place. It blows my mind. I've never seen anything like this. You can imagine they are bleeding. Bleeding bad. We conducted a full analysis of their Amazon business and detailed what needs to be done to turn things around. Relying solely on sponsored ads is not sustainable. You need a balanced approach to thrive on Amazon. Organic ranking and SEO strategies are crucial for long-term success. If you're heavily dependent on ads, it's time to rethink your strategy. Invest in your organic growth. Build a foundation that doesn't bleed you dry. One call, $45k deal closed. No ads. Because... Writing a book about SEO and giving it away for free is one of the best things I've ever done. Just had a call with a lead. ❌ Never talked before ❌ Didn't know anything about me He Googled my name after someone mentioned me, found my book and read it, which... 👉🏻 answered all of his pain points 👉🏻 justified why he was stuck poor agencies he chose 👉🏻 showed him that a path to success was possible 👉🏻 positioned me as the expert to get there Within three days went from zero exposure to me or my team at SEO National, read a book, scheduled a call, and... ✅ closed a $45,170 deal in one call. And this isn't the first time that's happened. Giving away everything for free continues to be my most profitable source of leads. I could be selling this book for a few dozen $1.97 ebook downloads each month. Maybe a few hundred. Or I could continue to give it away for free, increase authority, help many along the way, and continue pre-qualifying and closing leads.

All too often, the LinkedIn profile headlines I see need major work. Many of these job seekers have not changed the default headline automatically populated for this spot, based on their current, or most recent job title. I’ve found that many people don’t know: • That they CAN edit their profile headline, • How important relevant keywords and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) are throughout their LinkedIn Profile, but especially in the headline, and • That they need to strike a balance between satisfying SEO and attracting the human beings that will also be reading their headline (and hopefully reading their entire profile, too).
