“Kathleen is a pro at events and event management. She's detail-oriented, GSDs, and knows how to rally people behind her. In my 3 years at Box, I saw Kathleen grow BoxWorks from a small, but growing event, to one of the must-attend events of the year in the tech space. She does it all with professionalism, fun, and passion.”

What are effective questions for stakeholder feedback after an event?
I always offer two options - a 15 min live discussion (busy people lead busy lives) AND a 5 question email where I ask the same 5 questions - giving my stakeholders the option of one or both. Very often they will opt for the live version and consent to recording this. Feedback conversations have given me some of my best feedback, new ideas and a chance to build on relationships needed to ensure future success. I have never had a leader turn down the opportunity to express themselves after a major event. I have also found this prevents games of telephone within leadership where what was actually said is not passed down with full context or understanding. A great way to ask direct questions of critical feedback as well.

How can you manage stakeholder dissatisfaction at events?
It has been my experience that stakeholders express dissatisfaction for two primary reasons. 1. They didn't fully understand the concept/goals/ outputs the event would deliver. I address this by being hyper vigilant around stated goals/outcomes/how we will get there from the start. If you can show these from the start and reference back, it level sets expectations. 2. The post event dissatisfaction/feedback loop can be challenging because often it is not necessarily dissatisfaction but more looking to see where they can push for the next program. I look at this moment as learning about how to improve our comms/experience. This is where I learn and can push myself/team each time. Its a hard skill to hone but it is a vital in this profession.
