CRN has raised significant concerns with this bill and will continue to do the same with regard to any other similar legislation that attempts to impose age restrictions on dietary supplements. Such restrictions, also proposed in several other states, are unnecessary given the strong safety profile of these federally regulated products and the lack of scientific data connecting them to eating disorders in young people. Fear of aging is widespread. • 57% of US consumers feel anxious or depressed about growing older. • 63% express concern over declining health and medical costs. • Nearly half are afraid of losing their independence. But when it comes to how we age, mindset matters more than people think. Research shows an optimistic perspective on aging could extend lifespan by ~7.5 years. On the flip side, a negative view of aging increases risk of premature death and cognitive decline. Consumer Spend in Wellness is on the rise. From reading recents news, it might seem like consumers are not investing in their fitness and wellness - the reality is the opposite. There have been several consumer research reports released in the first half of this year that tell a different story.  For instance, The Future of Wellness report by PA consulting surveyed 4000 consumers in the UK and US and found that consumer spending on wellness is on the rise.  However, it also reported that while consumers have the willingness to spend more, they are dissatisfied with the results of their fitness and wellness. Here are the key highlights from their report: ⬆️ Spending is on the Rise 4 in 5 consumers intend to buy new wellness and fitness products or services by late 2025.  1 in 3 plan to spend more in 2024 than in 2023.  Americans spend an average of $5300 a year on wellness.  Globally nearly $1 in $20 are spent on wellness. 😩 Not happy with results Only 50% rate their health as good but 85% think about it on a daily basis.  Less than 50% are happy with their sleep quality, diet, and nutrition. 🧱 Consumers wants hyper-personalized and stackable solutions A majority of consumers would share their personal data if it means that brands can build their own blend of stackable habits and merge data with real-world, daily routines.  2 in 3 want personalized vitamins and supplements, a custom nutrition plan and a custom exercise plan based on their sleep quality and quantity. ⌚️ Health Tracking Apps and At-Home Equipment The top 3 subscriptions that consumers plan to invest in are health tracking apps, physical therapy and nutrition.   The top 3 products consumers would by are at-home fitness equipment, sleep and recovery products, and smart scales. 🌐 Inclusivity, Affordability and Trust Consumers are willing to share their data but brands still have earn their trust.  They might be willing to spend on wellness but they still want products and services to be reasonably priced. 1 in 2 say that wellness offerings needs to be more affordable and inclusive. Every year at CES we see a lot of promising health tech prototypes and concepts - from noninvasive CGM’s to patches for everything - very few actually make it to market. Often, when it does, the launch product falls short from the initial promise. The reason: FDA Approval. The FDA is designed to protect public health - regulating medical devices falls under its prevue. The FDA clearance process is rigorous and complex to navigate. It a process that takes years - not months - something that the tech industry isn’t used to. A device would need to show clinical-level accuracy for measurements - with a margin of error of under 4 percent or better. Data infrastructure would need to be HIPPA compliant. FDA also requires areas such as communication protocols, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity to be include as a part of the filing. The workaround: Wellness Devices. Most consumer health devices focus on wellness features because they lack FDA certification. As a result, they can only display the data but lack any true medical or diagnostic application. As consumers are pushing their wearables to be health devices, it is getting more and more difficult for wearable companies to hide behind the “wellness” label as an increasing number of companies achieve FDA clearance. Which is a big reason why we wanted to invest in bringing FDA approval capabilities in-house to serve our portfolio of brands. In partnership with B-Secur, SweatWorks can now help any wearable product (and associated software functions) achieve expedited FDA certification. This is a first for a digital agency and has already led to several news devices starting on the FDA approval journey. Traditional wellness programs focused exclusively on physical health—walking challenges, ergonomic assessments, and biometric screenings. Experience has taught us that employee health reaches beyond the physical body. Successful well-being programs include mental health, financial support, environmental health, community involvement, and social connection, in addition to physical fitness. Virtual escape rooms lead to collaboration among team members from different departments. A football survivor pool creates healthy competition internally. 90% of my conversations lately with prospective clients have been around this topic. Lots of research studies happening out there utilizing diagnostic & tracking tools like the Evolt 360, and still lots of questions! The one thing that I find key is Evolt’s approach to nutritional guidance pre & post GLP-1s. Nutrition and supplementation was always essential for our gym members to see results faster, however, that’s not going out the window with members on GLP-1s.
