Now this happened some 30 years ago. No fault of his this medical sales rep was so on fire that he told a certain doctor not to interrupt him until he finish “ detailing” the entire narrative. Imagine what are your chances of sitting before a doctor today if you were to do this? Selling is not a monologue. It is a dialogue between 2 or more persons and it involves a process of negotiations between the sellers and the buyer. Negotiations in the selling arena can be seen as a distinct process from the act of selling itself. While selling involves presenting a product or service to a potential customer with the goal of convincing them to make a purchase, negotiations occur when both parties (the seller and the buyer) engage in a dialogue to reach mutually beneficial terms for the sale. The mistake that many companies make in a sales process is to win at all costs. The buyer on the other hand do not want to lose so he holds his ground because he too wants to win. However when you are able to provide another alternative where the company wins the customer wins and most importantly and this is one that is often forgotten. The patient must also win. So in a fruitful conducive climate in negotiation it’s a win win win situation. For the company. For the doctor. And for the patient.

Who do you HAVE to see today? When I was an executive pharmaceutical sales rep my routing was the most important driver for results. The routing prioritized the physicians who had 2 things 1️⃣Relevant market volume. Meaning they were already actively prescribing my competitors products. 2️⃣The mindset of a fast adopter It’s the same as a business owner. You want to talk to people who are ALREADY investing in products and services similar to yours. Premium clients frequently get coaching. They frequently invest in courses , masterminds and conferences. . The mistake most people make is trying to convince people the wrong people. Narrow your focus. Don’t be afraid to be selective. Having a strategic routing is what allowed me to be in the top 2% as a pharma rep winning repeat quota trips and the coveted Presidents Council Award. You don’t need to see everybody.
