    I established The Chiari Warriors Foundation to champion the cause of increasing awareness and funding for Chiari Malformation—a serious neurological disorder that remains largely underrecognized. Since being diagnosed as a Chiari warrior myself in 2005, I have been deeply committed to educating others about the complexities of this condition and mobilizing resources to support affected individuals.

    What is Chiari Malformation?
    Chiari Malformation involves the downward displacement of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum, the opening at the base of the skull. This anomaly can impede the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid between the brain and spinal cord, potentially leading to non-communicating hydrocephalus. The symptoms can range from severe headaches, fatigue, and muscle weakness to more critical conditions like impaired coordination, paralysis, and in extreme cases, life-threatening complications.

    Our Mission
    The foundation’s mission is twofold: to raise the profile of Chiari Malformation within the medical community and broader public and to drive donations and support for ongoing research and patient support. Through educational outreach and partnership with organizations like Conquer Chiari, we aim to bring hope and help to those affected by this challenging condition.

    I am privileged to serve as a Faith-Based Youth Mentor at Giddings State School, Texas’s maximum-security facility for juvenile offenders. Established in 1972, the school currently nurtures over 350 young men aged 10 to 18, guiding them towards a path of rehabilitation and hope.

The mentoring program is designed to foster a trusting, supportive relationship between a mature adult and a carefully matched youth, empowering these young individuals to realize their potential, discover their strengths, and build self-confidence.

    My Responsibilities Include:

    • Building positive, personal relationships to provide a stable adult influence.
    • Helping develop crucial life skills and setting attainable goals.
    • Assisting in accessing additional resources necessary for growth and development.
    • Enhancing the youths’ ability to interact with diverse social and cultural groups.
    • Constantly reinforcing the message of God’s love and their inherent worth.

    Through this role, I strive to instill hope and change lives by nurturing a foundation of faith, understanding, and mutual respect.
