The “Point of Care’s Pharmacy Play” was such a refreshing panel at today’s #MMMMediaSummit. We loved the shout out on the continued growth of digital displays at retail pharmacy! The sentiment across the board was POC marketers are under utilizing the pharmacy channel and should reexamine their importance within the POC mix. A few great takeaways today: Sabrina Modellas EVP, Hero Collective Health: “Pharmacists are the most diverse HCPs.” High value interactions with a local pharmacist are crucially important within underserved communities. Louis Naimoli VP of programmatic, Haylo: “Rx brands think it’s too late with this messaging but it’s not. Any launch Rx brand should invest in pharmacy just like TV. Digital pharmacy screens are an opportunity to engage with patients post Rx to help with that adherence. An easy add-on to any POC targeting that they are doing.” Jen Yip, Clincal Digital Leader, Novartis: Utilizing pharmacies for DSE education and clinical research….a big play for Novartis piloting programs in rural and harder to reach communities. “The trend should continue leveraging pharmacies as clinics and extending those services.” Sarah Clark, Healthline Media: Patients make multiple trips to the pharmacy compared to their doctor. Pharmacists navigate medication side effects, financial aspects such as insurance and the healthcare system overall, things doctors don’t have time to do. All the touch points are in one space.” Fantastic job by all the panelists!

Dr Pepper is officially the second favorite soda in the country! According to new analytics data provided by Beverage Digest, Dr Pepper surpassed longstanding runner-up Pepsi to become the second most popular soda in the U.S. in 2023 behind top favorite Coke. Dr Pepper secured the second-most favorite by a slight margin over Pepsi, which previously held the position since 1985, per CNN. Both drinks, however, tied with a soda market rate of 8.3%. This wasn’t enough though to beat Coke — which holds steady at the top position with 19.2% of the soda market captured in the country last year. Other brands owned by Coca-Cola rounded out the top five, with Sprite in fourth position at 8.1% and Diet Coke in fifth at 7.8%. https://lnkd.in/gQdV9gEJ

To measure brand preference in the toilet paper category don’t just ask “What brand of toilet paper do you prefer?” Tell shoppers their in-laws are visiting and ask which brand they’d get for the guest bathroom. Don’t stop with the in-laws. Tell shoppers to imagine they’ve got hemorrhoids. A new romantic interest coming over in an hour. An illness that requires frequent trips to the bathroom. Or any other scenario that’s relevant to where you think your brand should be top of mind. Measuring preference by scenario is not only more revealing. Scenarios make otherwise boring decks more fun, giving you an excuse to talk about fundamental aspects of human nature such as love, your in-laws, and bowel-related illnesses. Speaking of human nature. Have you heard the story of the HMS Dolphin? The 1767 voyage where sailors discovered that women on Tahiti were willing to exchange sex for iron? Apparently the trade became so extensive that the loss of nails started to threaten the Dolphin’s physical integrity. Why mention this apocryphal story? Because forcing people to make difficult tradeoffs is a great way to get deeper insights from your surveys. You want to know what people want.
