I’m confused by the influx of software sales leaders and IC’s being sought after by benefits vendors/partners. Broadly they struggle because, while tech/data is part of their new role, they largely have very little knowledge of the idiosyncrasies, deal influencer dynamics, and knowledge-base of benefits buyers. (Yes, there always outliers) Generally, I don’t subscribe to this trend that is becoming popular, typically, with naive BOD’s. Just because you want the street to view you as a software company doesn’t mean it translates commercially. It should really be the reverse. If you can sell technology solutions and lead teams in the illogical, convoluted, and frameless environment of employee benefits….you should be sought after by every software company out there.
