We're launching the inaugural edition of Beyond Benchmarks, a deep dive into the metrics and trends observed across the early-stage enterprise cloud market. This is the first look at some of the business data around GenAI in SaaS. Some initial observations: 1) 60% of SaaS companies have already integrated GenAI into their offerings (60% of these as part of their current product and 40% as a new product), and an additional 20% are planning to do so this year. Almost half aren't monetizing these features. Those that are are primarily experimenting with both usage-based and flat fee pricing models. 2) Most companies are utilizing OpenAI as their primary LLM, but many are experimenting with multiple models - and we are noticing an early trend towards intelligently routing GenAI inference requests to different models based on cost, performance, and security. 3) Though we are in the initial innings of GenAI, we are seeing some positive signals - companies that implemented GenAI had 7% higher NDR than those that did not. Still early days, but we'll be doing this benchmarking report regularly to track and share how things progress in this new era. Link to report in comments.

Over the past few weeks, I've been presenting a simple flywheel model that I created to explain what, from my perspective, exceptional ventures are doing differently and often extremely well. As you start planning for 2025, here is the same advice we've given to 50+ other companies, such as AWS, Vanta, ISO, and more, when it comes to creating and planning for video. Start with your content funnel. 📊 Audit your funnel. Look at your Top, Middle, and Bottom of Funnel content. Where are you thriving? Where are the gaps? This step alone can uncover opportunities to make your messaging work harder. 🎯 Focus your efforts. Once you know where the gaps are, prioritize the areas that will drive the most ROI. Need awareness? Think brand explainers or thought-leadership videos. Struggling to convert leads? Customer testimonials and product demos work wonders. Want to close deals faster? Personalized videos can seal the deal. Plan for versatility. Video isn’t just a one-off campaign asset. It’s your all-star player. Repurpose it across social media, landing pages, email campaigns, and even in sales outreach. 2025 is coming fast, and if video isn’t in your plan, you’re leaving opportunity (and engagement) on the table.

Slaton was recently featured on This Dot's podcast about #documentation and #innovation! Documentation is often overlooked but absolutely crucial to team success. (True story: In 2016, I almost restarted CNN's presidential debate live feed while triaging Adult Swim's video based on incorrect documentation. Luckily, my spidey-senses told me to request the most-previous document editor to join the call to verify, highlighting the critical need for accurate documentation!) AD, I, and the other Directors and Solutions Architects at #WarnerMediaDiscovery Sports would kick off big initiatives, such as introducing #GraphQL as a Federated API, by way of #whitepapers. These white papers would then inform the #ProductDocumentation, helping build out the Jira tickets and #Confluence documentation. 💯 agree with this viewpoint Today there are hundreds of products in every vertical that should really be features not products 🤯 Who actually enjoys having 20+ software applications to run a business? I’ve yet to meet a degenerate who does 😂 Building a compound startup or true system of record is not for the faint hearted. Everything is harder. Navigating through the complexity and the breadth vs depth conundrum is agonising 🛣️ 🧟‍♂️ But if you can stick the course and execute on this strategy successfully to build the ‘one stop shop for X’ both the customer and the software provider get incredible rewards 🏆🏆 #compound #startup

The harsh reality of CA politics -- the state government works for Big Tech, not the citizens. Some good quotes here. Newsom's stated goal about workable "guardrails" is nonsensical as it's currently physically impossible. That's a bit like saying they are pursuing a way to apply DDT safely to agriculture.... no such method existed. Newsom and CA have zero cred on anything relating to responsible or safe AI. The question is whether that extends to Harris. I honestly don't know, but her history in defending SV and conflicting relationships that include her brother-in-law suggests that it would be difficult for her to regulate Big Tech objectively. Trump is also a wild card. He's so unpredictable that one day he might attempt to order Zuch arrested and the next brag about the power of American Big Tech. The next four years will be interesting. I have much more confidence in SCOTUS.
