Huge news developed over the weekend for news organizations in New York after the state’s governor signed the 2025 state budget which brings significant support to local journalism through the "Newspaper and Broadcast Media Jobs Program," allocating $90 million in tax credits for news outlets. 🎉 Spearheaded by the Empire State Local News Coalition, the legislation is the largest state commitment to community news organizations in the country, offering guaranteed tax credits for three years and prioritizing smaller outlets. 💪 This news is huge for news organizations. Not only does it provide them financial assistance but creates opportunity to bolster news staffs to provide even more content to the communities they serve. 📰 This legislation isn’t only good for news organizations but it’s a great thing for communities in New York. The funding will provide citizens vital information about what is happening in their towns, hold officials accountable and help the public live a better quality of life, through the important content these news organizations create. 🏙️ There are caps on annual credits per newsroom, based on employee count, and exclusions for publicly traded corporations are included. Which way do I go? 🔎 The meaning behind Yogi's words may surprise you. I sourced the story behind today's "Yogi-ism" from the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center website. "While giving directions to his best friend Joe Garagiola to his house in Montclair, Yogi told Joe to take the fork. The fork was unique in that no matter which direction you chose, you would end up at Yogi and Carmen's house." Interesting, right!? In Yogi’s case, no matter the choice, you achieved the same result. We're rarely afforded that luxury. There's more to the story! Yogi was a risk-taker and wasn't afraid to take a fork in the road. Even though he couldn't always see what was ahead, he recognized opportunities would be available. The path forward is rarely a straight line. There's more than one way to get from point A to point B. A fork in the road is a gateway to action, not habit. The Dean Scream is fake news. One of the most difficult aspects of video production to this day, August 8. 2024, is how to share 2 microphone recordings of the same event, with a client. Clients would ask why is one microphone so far away, why is the other microphone so crisp and clear but they can't hear anyone else? To this day, every post game sports interview with athletes and coaches still face this issue, why is the coach or athlete so easy to hear, but the sports reporters just 10 to 20 feet away, cannot be heard? Dean was screaming and the crowd was screaming back, except the crowd audio feed was never mixed into Dean's Scream, which was into a highly isolated microphone designed to pick up Dean's voice, and not much else, making him look like a fool as he screamed, because it looked like no one was screaming back. I don't understand why the Dean story still has legs since this was an audio mixing technical error, not something Dean did wrong. In other words, it was the stupidity of the media and how they reported this story, that has given it legendary status. Just another example of how the mainstream media rewrites history on a daily basis.
