As competition increases for biotech funding, the need for an effective pitch deck continues to grow. A common mistake is neglecting to address potential risks or setbacks. Companies may feel that this will give the impression of an ill-equipped organisation and ultimately erode investor confidence. However, it can have the opposite effect. Acknowledging the risks or potential setbacks you may face demonstrates a clear understanding of the volatile nature of biotech and can show investors that you're prepared to deal with this. As AI shifts the focus in biotech from discovery to design, value will move up the stack. Companies leveraging AI in R&D will produce more safe, durable, and effective molecules over time. If you believe in this future, AI will make every chemist and wet lab biologist significantly more effective and efficient, and differentiation at the frontier will come from superior skills in clinical indication selection and clinical trial design.

Wow, this is a big one - $1B to leverage GenAI for drug molecule design. Two links to Illumina: - Funding lead is Bob Nelson, who seed-funded Illumina, and - "teams and technologies from the genetic sequencing giant Illumina" "Drug R&D is an endeavor rife with failure — commonly cited figures estimate that only about 10% of drugs that make it to human testing are ever approved, and a far greater share fail before ever being tested in a person." "Xaira and several other new biotechs believe they can change that with new generative AI methods that can design complex molecules from scratch, find new targets, and cut months or even years from the process." Great example of the potential for GenAI to disrupt the entire drug development process. Chai-1 Released by Chai Discovery Team: A Groundbreaking Multi-Modal Foundation Model Set to Transform Drug Discovery and Biological Engineering with Revolutionary Molecular Structure Prediction The Chai Discovery team announced the launch of Chai-1, a groundbreaking multi-modal foundation model designed to predict molecular structures with unprecedented accuracy. This release marks a major advancement in molecular biology and drug discovery, with the model boasting state-of-the-art capabilities across a diverse range of tasks. As a freely available tool, Chai-1 opens new avenues for research and commercial applications, particularly in drug discovery. The core achievement of Chai-1 is its ability to predict complex molecular interactions involving proteins, small molecules, DNA, RNA, and even covalent modifications. This comprehensive scope makes it one of the most versatile tools for molecular structure prediction today. Unlike previous models, which often required multiple sequence alignments (MSAs) for effective predictions, Chai-1 can operate in single-sequence mode without significant loss of accuracy. This breakthrough enables users to predict biomolecular structures more efficiently, particularly when working with multimers. In benchmark tests, Chai-1 demonstrated a 77% success rate on the PoseBusters benchmark, outperforming AlphaFold3, which achieved a 76% success rate. Furthermore, Chai-1 achieved a Cα LDDT (Local Distance Difference Test) score of 0.849 on the CASP15 protein monomer structure prediction set, surpassing the performance of the ESM3-98B model, which scored 0.801. These results place Chai-1 at the cutting edge of molecular structure prediction, challenging the dominance of existing tools like AlphaFold.... Once in a lifetime GLP dosing?... Nope, says Eli Lilly's Skovronsky. The world's most valuable pharmaceutical company has invested significantly in genetic medicines, which "flies under the radar". One Third of their pipeline is now a genetic medicine and its not all rare disease, either.
