Excited to share that the 2023 impact report for LISC's Black Economic Development Fund (BEDF) is now live. Since 2020, with generous support from our investors, BEDF has committed a majority of its capital, investing $211.9 million to fuel Black-led financial institutions, Black-led businesses, and other organizations doing business in predominantly Black communities addressing economic challenges and contributing to closing the racial wealth gap. Through initiatives like BEDF, LISC remains at the forefront of efforts to enhance capital access for entrepreneurs serving communities of color. 📌EARLY PR Release Statement on Fearless Fund Lawsuit Outcome 📌 EARLY PR is disappointed in the federal appeals court’s recent decision to block the Fearless Fund from completing its mission of solving funding inequity for black and brown female founders. The decision is a deliberate attack on the progress of racial equity and justice and disregards the unique challenges Black women encounter in business. By blocking this grant, the court attempts to deny Black women equitable access to contribute to economic growth and innovation. Black women are the fastest-growing demographic of entrepreneurs. Yet, receive less than 1% of venture funding. Supporting Black women's businesses is an economic imperative that drives community development and job creation. EARLY PR is proud to be one of the many who will continue to champion marginalized business owners committed to building an equitable society, not unlike ourselves. These values are reflected structurally in every aspect of our business. Each month, we highlight small businesses in our newsletter, continuously speak up about injustice across our social platforms and offer discounter consulting services to brown and black business owners. Not to mention, our entire scope of client work also reflects these values. As a Black-woman-owned business, EARLY PR understands the struggle of racial and gender bias Black women experience and the difficulty of getting business recognition as a minority-owned business. Despite this setback for our shared communities, EARLY PR remains resolute. We will continue to advocate for equitable funding and recognition for all women, LGBTQ+, and marginalized business owners. Today, I am proud to announce the official launch of the Black Women’s Institute for Health (BWIH)—an idea that has been a germ of a dream for many years. This journey has been both challenging and inspiring, and I am incredibly grateful for the support of so many people who have helped make this a reality. Your encouragement, wisdom, and belief in this vision have pulled everything together, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the collective effort. At BWIH, our mission is simple but urgent: to advocate for the health and survival of Black women and girls across Canada. We know that Black women face unique and significant disparities within the healthcare system and adjacent systems, and it’s time for those experiences to be fully recognized and addressed. As part of our launch, we are unveiling a groundbreaking initiative: VOICES UNHEARD: Canada’s First Vital Signs Survey for Black Women and Girls. This survey marks the first comprehensive effort to collect data on Black women’s health outcomes in Canada. For too long, the lack of race-based data has left us invisible within the healthcare system, with devastating effects on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This survey is a vital step toward changing that narrative and creating the foundation for policy and legislative change. We are asking for your support—whether you identify as a Black woman or not.
