Hi friends 🙋🏻‍♀️ This video featuring Nicholas Spiers by MAPS.org is the most accurate and transparent snippet that addresses another elephant in the room of psychedelic healing. “Neotoddlerism” (check out Gurwinder on Substack) is a term that exposes the unconscious, toddler-like states prevalent in humanity today. Psychedelic use is often practiced from this state. In this video, a few critical points are highlighted: 1. The healing journey cannot be completed by merely ingesting psychedelics. 2. New Age spiritualists often create false and delusional concepts, such as “you are the medicine,” leading to the idea that nothing more than psychedelics needed. 3. Psychedelics are viewed as the ultimate solution. The truth is, our issues stem from relational trauma endured during our early years. This requires a relational container to return and confront the unbearable experiences that shaped our blueprint for life. Psychedelics alone cannot address the dysfunctional adaptations, fears, defenses, self-deception, and self-worth issues that arise from this trauma. Psychedelics are “non-specific amplifiers” (Stan Grof) If your psychological defense system protects you from the pain of feeling inferior by creating the opposite—a sense of superiority or feeling "special"—then when you take psychedelics, those adaptations will likely grow stronger. This is the “toddler” within seeking validation for feeling special to deal with neglect in the face of the trauma caused by early misattunement. The tricky part is, how do we find a mature and grounded relational container that offers a transparent process? How can we trust the healing process when “toddler-practitioners” serve medicine, “toddler-therapists” lead therapy, “toddler-coaches” run sessions, and “toddler-shamans” hold retreats? Given that those seeking healing are in a state of vulnerability, fragility, and heightened sensitivity, how can we cultivate accountability and transparency in the healing process? P.S. It's also crucial to recognize that many people seeking healing are unaware that the process will push them outside their comfort zone, beyond their window of tolerance. This can feel threatening from the very beginning. My personal experience and gathered data confirm that healing is about seeing and acknowledging our blueprint, growing in our capacity to face and accept it, coming to terms with it, shedding its spikes, and finally embracing acceptance, humility, and reverence. Ultimately, healing means continuing the daily work—carrying water and chopping wood—from a place of surrender. These are just brief thoughts on a much more complex healing journey. In conclusion, the most critical component of healing is the presence of a mature relational container or group that can hold the intensity of the process.
