The MSP event economy is "off" on multiple levels. First, there are waaaay too many of them. Second, even the largest and best known events fail to deliver real business value to the participants (I get that there is a "fun" component that obviously attendees value). Third, as Jason Slagle points out, it's basically the same 1000 MSPs that attend. I'm willing to bet that a proper LinkedIn strategy provides a much more efficient and economical way to connect vendors with buyers, provide specific product and broad technical education, and build closer peer relationships than events do. If I were running the go-to-market strategies for many of these channel companies I'd take a page out of Ted Hulsy's book and run lunch and learn tours all year long.

🤷‍♂️ Business owners and leaders, what criteria are you using to choose your partner for Managed IT services? If you are considering partners now you need to take 5-7 minutes and read this.......... Do you know what to look for, what to ask, and how to evaluate the companies you speak with? I feel for you, it must be so hard. I think it would be like choosing shades of gray to paint your walls. They all look grey; dark grey, medium grey and light grey. That's how Managed IT companies look. They all say the same things, offer basically the same things, generally price it the same, tell you that they deliver what sounds like everyone else does? So, what do you do? What should you ask? What should you look for? 1) 🤷‍♂️ Can they demonstrate how what they do and how they do it will make a significant impact on the operations of your business❓This is critical, as you should be choosing a partner who can make you better as a company because there is not a single outsourced partner relationship you have who you speak to more, who has more access (the keys to the entire kingdom), who presents more risk and therefore should be able to deliver a higher upside. 2) 🤷‍♂️ Can they demonstrate how they will increase your IT maturity, and how that will impact your business maturity❓This sounds like fluff, but one of the significant challenges most companies face with their provider is their partners level of maturity compared to their own. You DO NOT want a partner who is less mature than you, then they become a drag on your business. So, how do they demonstrate this?
