Creighton had an Accelerated Nursing Curriculum program which allowed you to complete a BSN in one year if you already had a bachelors of science degree. A very packed year of academics during the day, clinical rotations in the evening, and study nights & weekends.

This was the Engineer Officer prep school for active duty military. I preferred this over the much shorter course most of my ARNG - USAR pals took.

  • Ketogenic Anticancer Paleolithic (KAP) Diet for Advanced Cancer

    - Present

The Warburg Effect basically states that cancer cells will primarily use glucose (sugar) as their fuel, and that they will metabolize the glucose without using oxygen. PET scans make use of this effect by injecting radioactive sugar into the body, and then the tumors will "glow" on the subsequent scan. A ketogenic diet involves eating a very low carbohydrate diet. The body will then produce ketones bodies from fat, and these ketones work as an alternate fuel source for the brain and heart.…

PET scans make use of this effect by injecting radioactive sugar into the body, and then the tumors will "glow" on the subsequent scan. A ketogenic diet involves eating a very low carbohydrate diet. The body will then produce ketones bodies from fat, and these ketones work as an alternate fuel source for the brain and heart. Ketones also appear to have some anti-cancer effect. There are various types of ketogenic diet -- the most common is the Atkins Diet for weight loss. However, we are working on what we believe is a healthy version of the ketogenic diet, that incorporates paleolithic diet principles (Paleo / Primal / Caveman Diet) and also features anti-cancer foods wherever possible. A typical Ketogenic Anticancer Paleolithic meal might include 100% grass-fed beef or free range chicken cooked in coconut oil or butter from pastured dairy cows, some steamed broccoli with lemon juice, a side salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil topped with some walnuts and red bell peppers, and perhaps for desert some "paleo ice cream" made with frozen berries, heavy cream from pastured cows, and Stevia sweetener. Cancer research never tasted so good.

We are developing a research protocol for patients with metastatic cancer that have progressed on standard treatment as well as for patients with primary brain tumors that have recurred. Each patients will go on the ketogenic diet in conjunction with his/her doctor's choice of conventional therapies like chemotherapy or radiation. We will see if the diet is well tolerated, how it effects metabolic parameters, and whether it seems to prolong the time that the cancer responds to the conventional treatment.
