About two years ago I was hired by Jecobra Aviation, a full service aircraft sales and acquisition firm based in Texas. Prior to joining the team, I had no experience nor knowledge regarding the complicated process of buying or selling an airplane. I have learned A LOT in two years and still have a lifetime to go...but there is one thing I am certain about aircraft transactions: THEY ARE REALLY HARD. Throughout my observations thus far, nobody simply rolls out of bed, browses the market, makes a few calls, and collects a commission. Aircraft Brokerage requires grit, perseverance, creativity, and not to mention the essential aviation related subject matter expertise. Whether its thorough understanding of market research, flight operations, insurance implications, contract language and terms, financing structure, maintenance liability, and much more, an aircraft broker must be an "aviation swiss army knife" to be genuinely worthy of a client's trust. Knowing when to walk away from an aircraft and related deal is probably one of the most difficult questions to answer because it becomes very subjective. I usually recommend issues be limited to those that are “airworthiness” in nature. In other words, would the aircraft pass an annual/phased inspection with this issue? Another consideration is whether or not the seller is willing to address these issues. If not, then becomes a question of how serious the issues are to the buyer and are they prepared to step away from the deal. Backing out of the deal may be the most logical and cost effective action to take albeit not easy or straightforward. Especially if you’ve already invested significant time and money into your search. As a Buyer’s Agent, I help you understand the impacts of the items found and what they mean in financial terms during the prebuy. I ensure that we have the ability to back out of the deal at any time while protecting the buyer’s deposit provided you have the appropriate “out clause” in your Purchase Agreement. A big thank you to our Lean Leader, Karol Włosik, for facilitating the event and guiding us through the process. We also appreciate the active participation from our Quality, Finance, and Sourcing teams. Your contributions were key to identifying steps of the current process. The power of the VSM tool was truly eye-opening, revealing inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement that we hadn't seen before. The 2024 AirVenture fly-in at Oshkosh, WI was a huge success this year, with 15,000 planes and almost 700,000 people attending. I participated in the Cessna Mass Arrival which brought 65 airplanes and 130 people to smooth, safe landings in just 14 minutes. Even the air traffic controllers were impressed. I was honored to be one of the featured speakers at the EAA Forums, which are the heart of the educational component of the fly-in. As part of my presentation, I reviewed the abstracts of all 1,237 presentations and prepared the chart below, which tabulates the general topics and their popularity. As you can see, despite the fact that there were hundreds of thousands of flyers at Oshkosh that week, only FOUR presentations were about the protection and promotion of our G.A. airports. This strikes me as an enormous oversight by both the pilots and presenters. After all, every flight needs an airport, and nobody should be more concerned than pilots about the health and vibrancy of their local aerodromes. Meanwhile, airports across the country are threatened by neglect, mis-management and avaricious developers. Look what's happening in California and Colorado, where short-sighted politicians are trying to close a number of airports with bogus claims of lead-poisoning and noise problems. There is an urgent need across our industry to reach out to airport operators and show them a healthy community needs a healthy airport. Nobody can do that better than the pilots who know those airports best. Pilots need to be the marketing team for their airport: presenting a positive face to our communities, to government agencies, and to the media.

Simple and direct something to think about. I’ve been in IT almost 20 years and I tell people I’m good at what I do and I work with people that are good at what they do and have a lot of experience at what we do. The funny thing is none of us say we are experts even if we are the ones they come to when things go side ways to fix it and fix it we do. Then you see Experts that have less than 2 years of experience at something hell in most professions that’s still almost intern status not saying they aren’t talented people but expert? Point? You can be really good at what you do and still not be an expert. Do no harm. Help where you can but be honest about it.

My headline: Company Culture eats Corporate Strategy for Breakfast... Again. I fully expect Boeing's Board members will fail to acknowledge or accept the responsibility for the role(s) THEY played in these outcomes. When problems are this prolific and systemic, you must accept that your culture has become a problem. As a Board member and supposed leader or shepherd of the organization, your company culture and how it is developed or sustained must be constant concern. Your system of recognition, rewards, and retribution have communicated an exclusive or excessive emphasis on certain metrics (production, revenue, financials), and have encouraged or excused the exclusion of others (safety, quality, transparency). Whether deliberate or not, this is what you have allowed and enabled. This should be a lesson for every (current or future) organizational leader. If your balanced score card isn't placing safety and quality alongside production and revenue, you're communicating where people should prioritize their time, efforts, and energy. Building the Shadowing Program I Wish I Had A year ago, I launched the Shadowing Program because, reflecting on my journey since joining Pratt & Whitney a decade ago, I realize how valuable it would have been to have such an opportunity early in my career. Navigating new roles and departments can feel like a leap into the unknown. The goal of this program is to bridge those gaps by offering real-world insights and firsthand exposure to what different teams and functions do. In 2024, more than 200 sessions have taken place, and it’s been amazing to see the enthusiasm from both participants and hosts. Why this Program Matters - Broader perspective: Shadowing helps you understand how other teams operate and how your work connects to the bigger picture. - Skill-building through observation: Watching others tackle challenges provides insight you can apply to your own role. - Exploring future paths: It offers a chance to reflect on potential career moves by experiencing different functions firsthand. Linkedin is increasingly providing me with suggested and promoted posts from parties I have nothing to do with. They are not in my career network. I am not following them. A large part of those posts are rudimentary posts about some basic function in the aircraft industry. "An airplane is a machine with wings and an engine" level posts by someone claiming a PhD. Those posts are populated with a few "Gee, neato" responses. Now... I don't spend much time on the aircraft business in my profile. Some algo somewhere figured that out and is feeding me these posts. None of this is remotely interesting to me. I'm deeply suspicious that this is just bot activity. And today I learned about "Dead Internet Theory". It's pretty easy for me to apply dead internet theory to Linkedin. What is relevant to me are things that are relevant to people I know. What is not relevant to me is anything a computer puts in front of my face. Maybe there is some value in trying to train linkedin by continually telling it that I am not interested. But if Microsoft is making their money by automated systems trying to produce falsified engagement, then my efforts to sway the algo are doomed to failure. So... I posit that LinkedIn is becoming irrelevant. It will join the monster.coms of career sites.

Who is suffering from long procurement lead times? The demand for aircraft is high yet we are challenged by the supply chain. Some of my least favorite conversations are about delayed completion times due to part availability. We are working diligently to solve these situations as they arise; global supply chains are being strained to keep up with demand across all industries. By repairing what we can it allows parts retain their maximum value while conserving resources; this helps reduce the demand on supply chains. What are your thoughts on BER (Beyond Economical Repair)?
