One Mistake Everyone from FP&A Analysts to CFOs are Making on their LinkedIn Profiles I think if we really knew how many companies with 9 and 10 zeros in revenue still aggregate and validate their financials using spreadsheets, we'd be utterly shocked. As companies continue to increase in complexity, cloud based EPM software will, of necessity, be increasingly deployed by companies all over the world.  What does that mean for you, dear FP&A jobseeker ? Or you, FP&A Analyst, Director, or even CFO who aren't necessarily seeking a new role but who ARE looking to stay ahead of the curve and in demand? It means this: EPM softwares like Anaplan, OneStream, NetSuite, Hyperion (you get the idea) are not going away, so from an FP&A standpoint, you make yourself far more marketable, appealing, and effective if you have expertise in one (or more!) of these systems. I see many LinkedIn profiles and resumes where an FP&A person is very familiar with one of these systems but fails to mention it. Put these specialized skills on your profile as many times as you can! If you hesitate to tout your accomplishments, I'm here to tell you, you need to tout. LinkedIn Algorithms rank you by number of common contacts AND number of times you have a keyword listed. For example, if an FP&A hiring manager told me: "I need an analyst with several years of general experience PLUS it would really be great if they were already familiar with OneStream," my first search would obviously include OneStream as a keyword. If you don't have OneStream listed in your profile or on your resume, guess who won't come up? And further, if you only have OneStream listed once, you might come up on page 10, while the person who mentions it 4 times (as a certification, as a skill, and in the experience and about sections) comes up on the first page.  So, the bottom line is, if you have a generalized FP&A profile, you may be due for a little refresh, especially if you want to be noticed.

Let’s be real: most accounting and FP&A software solutions have failed to truly innovate or add substantial value in the last decade. Despite numerous tools like Jirav, Planful, Pigment, Abacum, Drivetrain for planning, and Tally, QuickBooks, Xero, and Zoho for bookkeeping, none have managed to outperform Excel when it comes to planning and forecasting. These tools lacked scalability and ended up demanding more manual effort from users, with inefficiencies increasing as businesses grew. They failed to deliver the seamless automation and intelligent insights that finance teams truly need to thrive.
