Patients with rare disorders face unique challenges every day. #AB2613 (Zbur), which would create a Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC) in California, has passed through the California State Legislature unanimously and we are now asking for Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature to implement this important legislation. “I endured a 22-year diagnostic journey which resulted in the loss of vision permanently in my left eye due to a rare autoimmune disease called #NMOSD. Until 2019, there were no FDA approved drugs for NMOSD. In fact, 95% of rare diseases have no FDA approved treatments. However, I do not have a biomarker for my disease, therefore the approved treatments do not work for me. I am treated off-label. This poses unique challenges for me as a rare patient, as all rare patients face their own set of unique challenges. I created the Mellie J Foundation to change health outcomes for patients and to help ensure no one has to wake up blind to receive a diagnosis. As the American Society of Hematology conference comes to a close in San Diego, we’re excited to be part of the rapidly evolving landscape of treatments for severe Hemophilia A, a hereditary disorder that causes spontaneous bleeding.   HC Bio’s lead program takes a new approach to genetically addressing hemophilia.
