Commissions Continued: What Amount Counts? When a deal closes, like a recent upsell for additional licenses, we’ve structured a process to pay commissions based on the annualized amount rather than the prorated portion. Here’s a quick breakdown: -> Opp ARR and Quote Amount = cost of additional licenses for a full year. -> Two Order records related to Quote: one for the prorated term, another for the full renewal term. Example: Adding 9 Licenses in September, Renewal is 1/1/2025. -> Prorated Amount (Term 1) = $2,000.00 -> Full Amount (Term 2) = $7,000.00 We will be paying our CSMs commission on the Full Amount (Term 2). Two small but meaningful moments this quarter, so far: - During an interview with a leading CPG company, a candidate requested access to our product, Shelf IQ, as part of their new role. It wasn’t just a preference—it was important to their work and success. Moments like this remind me that what we build truly matters. Another highlight: - A new category advisor for Walmart from a Fortune 50 company urgently needed Shelf IQ but warned us that the contract process would be long. Our revops “team” at Chili Piper does A LOT OF automations. If you’d see our list, you’d think we have a full train of rev ops folks working here at Chili Piper (spoiler alert, we have 1 and a half). Here’s an example of an “unconventional” automation We assign churned accounts to SDRs. Yep, we automate outreach to churned accounts Here’s why and how First, let me tell you, it breaks my heart to see any customer churn. I feel like my heart is asking but always aim to learn from it and make everything better for them if they were to come back. Hence, we want to learn what made them leave, fix the problem, and win them back And the good news is that we win many of them back . Here are the nitty gritty on how we do this : We setup these rules for assigning churned accounts to our SDRs: – Account Status = updated to Churned – Transaction End Date = 91 days – Round Robin across SDRs and update SDR Owner – SLA: after 12 working hours, check if there was activity yesterday AND ROE phase ≠ unfit to work, send Slack notification – SLA: after 12 working hours, check if there was activity yesterday AND ROE phase ≠ unfit to work, reassign – Provide a Slack notification to the AM (80 days post-contract end date) – Provide a Slack notification to the SDR once the Account has been assigned (91 days post-contract end date) – Provide SDRs with information on why the account is churning in SFDC to give them the context to sell into the account effectively. Do you ever go to a restaurant with a too-big menu, get overwhelmed, and just freeze? That's how I think shopping for products in crowded categories feels to buyers. Lots of options that seem the same-ish... and pretty chaotic. It's obviously easier now than 10-15 years ago to do high-level research on products, but actually narrowing down a shortlist of choices based on your context is a drag— maybe harder than before. No one has this kind of time. ⏳ 🙃 So, we figured we could at least make it easier for buyers to shop in our space—for Digital Adoption Platforms. We built a comprehensive (and relatively unbiased) Buyer's Guide that breaks down everything there is to know about assessing, selecting, and succeeding with a Digital Adoption Platform. Leaders in Product, Product Marketing, Growth, and Scaled Customer Success are the usual evaluators of DAPs, and here are the focus areas we most hear about when they come to us: • New user onboarding and activation • Feature discovery and adoption • Self-serve support, reducing tickets • Reducing churn, upselling in an efficient way • Getting customer feedback A big chunk of the companies that care about having a DAP in place have some sort of a PLG/ PLS motion and can't have engineers' time burned up designing, building, and optimizing in-product experiences. These companies set out looking for no-code solutions. In the past ~12 months, we've also seen an increase in evaluations kicked off by Scaled CS Leaders as PLG encompasses customer retention and expansion. Here are the parts of the guide that I think are *most* useful, based on questions we hear daily from early-stage buyers: • Lay of the land- learn about all the different choices • How all the pricing works • Planning out a successful Trial/ POC • How to think about your DAP with the rest of your stack Thanks to our customers, who teach us so much during the sales process about how they buy, what questions they have, and what they need more help with as they weigh options.
