Here's how you can smoothly transition from a traditional marketing career to a social media-focused one.
In order to successfully pivot to social media, I recommend you take a deep dive into the most commonly used social media platforms AND their analytics. It's not enough to know how to create and share great content - you also want to fully understand the metrics. You'll want to also focus on combining both organic and paid content campaigns. Attend industry conferences, gain certifications, It helps to build your own reputation around social media marketing. You should post content that demonstrates your knowledge and passion. You can join a social media agency or work as a freelancer. If you don't have paying clients yet, consider taking on some pro bono clients so you can generate case studies to demonstrate your success & help you sell.

What are the best ways to pursue a career in Marketing?
The best way to begin is is by doing. I recommend starting with an internship. Consider agency internships because you will be exposed to a greater variety of clients and work. I began my career as an intern and it was an amazing learning experience. You should also attend conferences and read industry blogs and listen to podcasts to continue your education. One more practical piece of advice is to start learning as much as you can about Generative AI and its impact on marketing as it is transforming the job in so many ways. Joining and agency or company with that knowledge in hand will automatically give you a leg up. Hope this helps. It's a fantastic career. Wishing you luck.

You want to stand out in a crowded market. How can you make your brand more memorable?
The most important part of content creation - especially when you need to rise about the market noise - is to have something to say. I know that sounds simple. But, so many brands don't really have a POV beyond, "pick us." Whether you are a B2B, B2C or DTC, you must have something original and meaningful to say. And, please put your customer first. No one wants to engage with self-promotional content. Educate, inform and entertain. You will never stop the scroll if you don't.

You want to stand out in a crowded market. How can you make your brand more memorable?
Today, you want to make sure your tech stack includes generative AI. You may not need to invest in something new. Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sprout, etc., all have integrated gen fill now. Just be sure your team understands how to get the most out of this new tech. I work with marketers who use Photoshop daily and aren't even aware they can now type their direction in gen fill and instantly create compelling content. I also encourage you not to rely entirely on AI automation as it still has flaws and requires a human to direct it.
