It isn't about YOU! If we had a $ for every time we said this each week ... As an agent, or leader of change; It isn't about YOU. It takes maturity, self-awareness, and self-confidence to step into the facilitation space, where it isn't about you. When I hear Change Agents talking about what they have done. 'When I ...', 'Then I ...' it is all about them. They aren't ready, yet. One of my favourite new language hacks helps here: When listening to others, instead of saying 'I know', which is all about you. Try: 'You are right' instead. It pivots to them, not you, validates their thinking, and as a bonus helps them see that you are listening and agree with them. A point of connection. Does the old "out-of-office" template need a revamp? #HolidayMode Nowadays we work from mostly anywhere so how should we call it "I-am-offline, give me a break" autoresponder or autorespond with some positive thoughts and/or redirecting. That's what my colleagues do. I do not recall have I ever use autoresponder. I check my e-mails not as often while on holidays, but check it daily, delegate it or give feedback when the proper response is expected. #LinkedinNews

Leading a meeting is more about facilitating than telling. It's more about finding solutions than speaking concerns. It's more about learning than teaching. But changing leaders' behaviors in meetings is easier said than done. Adam Grant puts it this way... "Meetings shouldn’t always be run by the leader. They should be guided by the best facilitator. Too many bosses silence the room. Skilled facilitators amplify dissenting views and quiet voices. A key to curbing groupthink is preventing powerful people from dominating discussions." Your best people love working for someone who values their opinion in the room. Let's talk more about the brutally honest facilitations. Facilitation is not all about creating great, fun, and enjoyable times. I have facilitated processes that were the absolute opposite of great fun. They were painful, intense, tiresome, desperate, and extremely sad. And that is precisely how they had to be. My role was to relieve the participants of worrying about the process and what to do next so they could fully engage with what they needed to work through. They were not easy for anyone involved and complicated for me as a facilitator long after the fact. These weren't experiences that I enjoyed, but they were invaluable in their learning and impact. Maybe those are only my experiences, but I doubt it.
