Capital is the lifeblood of innovation and funding promising medtech companies will payoff for investors - and patients. Which is why we #dothething. I love marketing communications and press releases, especially around legal items. My takeaways: ✅ noncompetes are banned, effective 120 days after the rule is put into place ✅ companies have a duty to notify employees that they won’t be enforced ✅ there is hyperbole about how the rule change will boost US GDP If you read the dissent, it is about power and whether the administrative state can #dothething without Congress. Always salient questions to ask and the heart of the 3-2 vote. But what I truly, truly enjoy is the infographic nature of the press release. 🤔 “2.7% increase in new business formation and healthcare savings of $194 billion.” 😉 I’d love to see the assumptions behind that 🤭 why 2.7? Why not 2.4 or 3.9%? 😉 12 digit healthcare cost savings? 🤭 where did that come from? 😀 can you imagine the meeting and vision boarding for the financial analysis? 🧮 I definitely feel sorry for the Financial Analyst II running that spreadsheet. 🏋️ That’s a lot of “false precision” and hyperbole. —————————- I like #marketing. I'm proud of the work by our amazing team and innovative clients at Validic that led to being recognized by the 2024 MedTech Breakthrough Awards! This award is for "Remote Patient Monitoring" — but what does that really mean? 👇 💰 Lowering cost of care through early discharge and preventing readmissions — One client saw more than $1,400 per patient per month reduction in cost of care for patients enrolled in Validic's intervention program (this was an RCT) 🔗 Closing care gaps — On average, hypertension patients tracking blood pressure with Validic see a 12% drop in systolic blood pressure (SBP) in six weeks decreasing from stage 2 hypertension to normal, and patients with HbA1c levels greater than nine see an average decrease of 2.3 points in 90 days 🧑‍⚕️ Help clinical teams focus on care management and transitions of care for the most critical patients — One client saw a care team conducting telephonic evaluations in a cardiology clinic expand from six patients per hour to 20 patients per hour (while improving clinical results!) “M&A is easy, integration is hard.” Oftentimes the deal team is separate from the operators who are tasked with integration. And often the integrators are given vague direction, other than a good “pump up speech” by executives and an exhortation to “bring it home.” It really comes down to answering the question, “why did we buy this asset?” Then driving the answer to that question through the gaining organization. That way the integration team which receives the handoff can fulfill the financial model while protecting the intangibles - IP creators, unique process, customer facing cultural items, etc. Once the press release goes out, the real work begins. Organizations buy things for the hope of “1+1=3.” But the “3” manifests only if the whole organization is behind the M&A. Otherwise, the integration flounders through bureaucratic death by a thousand cuts of “not invented here.” Good OP. Joe Mullings always makes me think. #leadership #changinglives #dothething

“M&A is easy, integration is hard.” That phrase goes through my mind almost every day. M&A is often heralded as bold, sexy and a higher order move. Press releases, a toast at the bar, a well deserved vacation when the deal is done. Integration is left for others to do. But a lot of pain and suffering can be avoided - and deal model value created - with another higher order activity… Strategy. Joe Mullings writes of what you actually “get” when you buy a company. You get the “thing” - product - and data and fact sets for the market. But the knowledge is in the people. And people must be led well and funded appropriately to maximize their efforts and apply the knowledge every day to produce the outsized results contemplated by the deal.
