My wife recently started using Vultron after I told her to check it out. She stated she wanted to get back to work supporting proposals, writing, or providing recruiting services. She has made a view post on her company page about it. Although I am not as knowledgeable about the tool, it is helping her with her current client(s). I want to celebrate a new release of City of Asheville's SimpliCity application (https://lnkd.in/edG5CbqD). It's not that the user-facing changes were such a big deal. In fact, the biggest and arguably most important change is completely invisible (the back end was finally made 100% serverless). But that is exactly what I want to celebrate: the City's ongoing investment in *maintaining* this fantastic tool for community members to access important City data. Too often local governments chase shiny new things that bring positive attention while neglecting the critical infrastructure, both physical and digital, that is critical to their ability to deliver high-quality service to their constituents. I'm proud of the City of Asheville's IT department for continuing to invest in the underlying infrastructure and processes that make all the difference. I'm particularly invested in this tool since I was part of the last revamp, but I know that there are a lot of other things they're working on in the same spirit. To be clear, there *are* some user-facing improvements - they've sped up and cleaned up search behavior and added permits as possible direct search results, enhanced the UX for selecting date ranges, and allowed permit search AT an address, not just nearby. They've also increased consistency of behavior across the site by making better re-use of components in different parts of the application. To my mind, this is still one of the best applications out there for making open data accessible to regular folks in the community.

Below is a link to the DSF website and my newest article. The topic is relationships versus contacts. This has been on my mind for years but lately I have seen so much written about relationships I just had to chime in. Most articles cite the facts and copious supporting data that shows having relationships (real not imagined) lead to better heath, happiness, and versions of success. This is a topic that deserves to be understood for all of us but for us in AV and digital signage this is a must to wrap our arms around. So often people speak of contacts as if they are “friends” in the industry and this implies a relationship. These are not friends or relationships as classically defined but rather those you are friendly with. What they mean is that they are acquaintances. Huge difference! The keys to the kingdom personally and professionally are relational relationships and we all need to know how to cultivate and expand those. This article took me time to research and glean from experts to help lay it out for us all. It is up to each of us how and who we want to cultivate from a contact to a relational relationship but the positive results cannot be ignored…enjoy and have a great week building relationships. https://lnkd.in/gTGrUpEa

In response to a discussion with some colleagues this morning, I wrote this down without giving it much thought. Upon further reflection, I feel it's a good set of guidelines to follow. NO is the most powerful word you have in your lexicon. -- Earn the respect first to have an opinion and say NO  -- Stop worrying about the consequences of saying NO -- Use your best judgement on when to say NO -- Good judgement comes from making a lot of mistakes -- Eat humble pie when you make mistakes and apologize profusely

10/10 would recommend working with generous co-workers like Koren Lane and Andrew Lane. Several of Aviture's awesome employees work in or around Omaha. But several of Aviture's awesome employees work remotely. Koren is one of those remotes, but she comes into the Omaha more often than most. And when she does (at least lately), the great @Andy Lane has been sending flowers. And she enjoys those flowers while she's here, but I get to enjoy those flowers when she boards a plane to go back home to said husband. Rather than pitch them or let them wilt in an office where no one can see them, she drops them by my desk, where I get to enjoy them. And it costs her nothing to be generous, but not everyone would see the opportunity to bless and encourage others. So 10/10 would recommend working with generous co-workers that bless others. Am I relocating to Wisconsin? Probably not, but I thought about it after listening to the last episode of "An Arm and A Leg" podcast. https://lnkd.in/en_a33xi? Lincoln County, Wisconsin, is a small town with a publicly owned nursing home. The story explores this publicly owned nursing home vs. the statistics of private equity facilities. In the episode, there’s also research on facilities that were public but were sold to private equity, and the impact it had. It’s fascinating to hear real people’s points of view that have lived through the experience. When we started working remotely in response to COVID-19, I never thought I’d still be working remotely nearly 4+ years later. Without warning, I became my grandmother’s primary care provider two years ago. Over the past two years, I’ve navigated and updated her Medicare selections, selected and supported updating all of her estate documents, researched and collected her medical history, and caught up on appointments or had procedures with general practitioners and specialists. After multiple cataract surgeries, she’s no longer legally blind and now has a reduced chance of developing bed sores as her recently diagnosed Alzheimers and multiple cancers continue to metastasize. When people glimpse into our world, I’m often asked why I don’t put her into a facility. The question is always asked with assumed justification for concern for my well-being. My response is never graceful. These days are not about my health. They’re about my grandmother’s. I call her Nanna. People are unaware of the true cost of healthcare as they age. Finding a reasonably priced and desirable place is less daunting if you age without extenuating needs. However, when you mention needs such as memory care, the cost increases significantly. Memory care is not covered by Medicare under most circumstances. My partner and I agree that, given our circumstances, there are no alternatives. This is not to say that we couldn’t make something else work financially if we had to, but we are unified in our belief that this is the most loving and highest-quality care for my grandmother that we have the ability to provide. We are at a ripe time for technology innovation to drive patient care and patient engagement in healthcare over gross profitability. The Power of the Unknown - A 2024 Reflection Two years ago, my family and I embarked on a significant life change, moving from India to Louisville. This transition was a whirlwind of unfamiliar experiences: navigating driving rules, understanding the tax system, and grappling with concepts like credit scores. It was a period of constant learning, often accompanied by feelings of powerlessness and a lingering doubt about our decision to leave our comfort zone. However, over time, I began to embrace this state of "not knowing." Each question I asked, each new experience I encountered, opened doors to new friendships and unexpected solutions. I discovered innovative approaches to everyday challenges, simply by being open to different perspectives and ways of doing things. Living amidst diverse cultures has fostered a profound respect for viewpoints that differ from my own. It has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and appreciate the richness of cultures that are new to me. The past two years have taught me the immense value of embracing the unknown and cultivating a beginner's mindset. This approach encourages curiosity, fosters a willingness to learn, and empowers us to explore uncharted territories.  As we step into 2025, I encourage each of you to embrace the power of the unknown. As individuals in the technology sector, we are acutely aware that the future is inherently uncertain.
