🔎 If we're saying recruiters only spend ~10 seconds on resumes, how long do we think candidates spend reading job descriptions before hitting "apply"? Are we really comfortable asking candidates to align their resumes to job descriptions that may not be thoughtfully crafted? How much time are we truly investing in writing job descriptions that reflect the role accurately and engage the right talent? 🌟 I hear the frustration from companies about the flood of one-click applications. I understand that AI is making all of this worse, not better. But for all the advise to job seekers on revising their resumes, I don't see the same energy for employers to look critically at their job descriptions.  ✍️ Let’s raise the bar on both sides. I don’t care if you come to the office a little late. I don’t care if you choose to work from home. I don’t care if you’re dialing in from your garage while your car’s getting fixed. I hired you to get the job done, and I trust you can do that. Just tell me what you need from me to succeed in your role, and I’m here to support you. Life happens. You don’t need to justify why you need a day off. You don’t need to explain why your kid is sick, or why you need to leave early. You don’t need to apologize for having a personal life. Yes, I care about results, but I care about you too. We’re all adults, we’re all human. I lead people, not manage a daycare. Here’s my advice to anyone hiring: Hire the right people. Set clear expectations for outcomes. Provide the tools and support needed. Focus on work-life balance to prevent burnout. Then, let them do their job. Love this.

This is an important perspective! As a professional holding two Associate Degrees that do not equal out to one Bachelor's Degree, did you know that most algorithms dismiss me within the application process before a recruiter even sees my resume?! Did you know that my experience in roles such as Clinic Management, Provider Coordination, Program Coordination, & Project Management were all obtained because someone offered me the chance to learn on the job, I proved myself, I thrived, I created an environment of learning, development, consultation, & tools that my organizations did not imagine possible? All because they looked beyond a piece of paper - they saw a whole person, the talent and driven personality. Turn the algorithm off. Read between the lines. Understand what each role listed on that resume has offered that applicant to learn, soak in, and offer to your team. You never know what doors it will open for your organization. Professional Email Etiquette 📌 When writing professional emails, how you address someone sets the tone for the entire message. Here are some simple guidelines for addressing individuals and groups effectively: 📌 If You Know the Person's Name: Formal (First-time or formal situations): "Dear Mr./Ms./Dr. [Last Name]," Example: Dear Dr. Tan, Semi-Formal (You know them, but still keep it professional): "Hello [First Name]," Example: Hello Adam, 📌 If You Don't Know Their Name: Formal and Neutral: "Dear Sir/Madam," "To Whom It May Concern," "Dear Hiring Manager" (for job applications) 📌 For Group Emails: "Dear Team," "Hello Everyone," 📌 If You Want to Be Polite but General: "Good Morning/Afternoon," "Greetings," After the salutation, start with a polite introduction, especially in first-time contact: "I hope this message finds you well." As an organizational development nerd I find this process and the practice emmensly useful in driving true development rather than just training. 1. Never assume you know exactly what your customers need. And that you will in fact learn as you go - so leave room to adjust. 2. Accept that as you hypothesize and build development experiences, processes, and toolset you WILL need to test them. Measure closely (quantitative & qualitative) 3. Be loud and proud that you don’t start with all the answers but are learning with your clients as you go. Bring people along. Make the learning and growth more about the journey and not simply creating a learning product with the expection of perfection at first. I recently attended an event with the ATD - Research Triangle Area Chapter that was too insightful not to share. Sean McGinty, CPTD, MCCT led us through a topic that can easily go overlooked in #learninganddevelopment — designing for #accessibility. While Section 508, the ADA, and web compliance guidelines may not be a strict requirement for every organization, this was a great reminder that they should serve as a baseline for content creation in order to accommodate as many learners as possible. Here are my biggest takeaways: 🎨 Fonts & Colors: Stick to 1-2 easy-to-read fonts and 3-4 colors that pass a color blindness simulation test. 🌅 Images: Alt text should be descriptive and conversational, almost like explaining the image to a colleague. 🎥 Videos: Closed captions are non-negotiable and auto-play should be avoided. 🔊 Audio: Transcripts are crucial for accessibility and learners should have full control of the audio experience. 🧩 Interactions & Assessments: Consider dexterity challenges—drag-and-drop or hotspot activities aren’t keyboard-friendly like multiple choice questions are. 😵‍💫 Animations: Poorly designed animations can be confusing and, in some cases, pose seizure risks. Ask yourself, “What value is this animation adding to the learning experience?” ⏰ Time Limits: These can induce stress and anxiety, hindering learning retention and impacting the learning experience of people with ADHD, for example. Accessibility isn’t just about checking a box — it’s about making sure your content is inclusive. If we’re not designing with accessibility in mind, we’re unintentionally isolating 15% of our audience and impacting engagement and retention! Thanks for a great session, Sean! Maybe it is not the reason you were expecting - BambooHR recently surveyed 1500 employees, 1/3rd who were HR related, and 25% of execs, and 20% of HR persons revealed that they hoped staff would quit with the advent of "Return to Office" mandates. As Paul Levy indicated in a recent post, that this is layoff season, and with the current business instability, it would appear, that beyond tighter surveillance of staff, culling of numbers is also a large reason for the increasing mandates. This to me is a bit disheartening - in my mind, promoting work-life balance, dedicated and passionate employees enrich and reward companies far more in the end. Some of my most productive hours are my first ones in the morning - These were robbed in the past from the battles and frazzles of a long, tedious, and often frustrating commute, which left my in-office first hours often trying to de-stress and get back into a good productive state. While encouraging staff to leave, may help lighten that heavy burden and stress that reducing headcount produces, I am willing to wager that a fair amount of the most productive employees will be those who move on to brighter pastures, as well as the eventual increased costs of acquiring high-performing talent.

Not all project management roles are the same. 🤔 Ask yourself: 1. Does the company culture align with my values? Research the company’s culture through reviews. Observe their public communications. Talk to current employees. 2. Will this role help me grow? Look for opportunities for professional development. Ex: training programs, mentorship, and potential career paths. 3. Am I excited about the projects? Ensure the projects you’ll be working = align with interests + expertise. Finding a role that fits you requires deep research and self-reflection. Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions during interviews to ensure the company and role align with your career aspirations and personal values.
