I find it interesting that post-post pandemic, employee satisfaction is at an all-time low. You would think that, 4+ years post-Covid lockdowns, there would be some improvement there. And it appears satisfaction was on the rise last year. What happened this year? Here are some guesses: ⚖️ Balance. We used to talk a lot about balancing life and work, but now we actually mean it. And more of us don't consider leaving the office early to pick up the kids, only to finish working later until midnight, as balance. That's still overwork. 🏋️‍♂️ Under-resourcing. We're all trying to make-do with less, meaning we take on more of what we don't want to do, or can't do well. Leading to burnout 🥵 🧘‍♀️ Well-being and diversity and inclusion programs that came out of the pandemic were cut back or altogether; but they actually made a difference. 🤢 Uncertainty. Layoffs, inflation, AI: All of these factors make us wonder if what we're doing now is sustainable. Can companies help support talent to upskill and even help them structure more bespoke work opportunities in their next act? What have I missed? As a branding & comms person, I often code switch to a "commercial marketer" so I can hope to gain a perceived (aka better), more strategic seat around the business table. But watching how attribution and GPTs can sanitize brands into oblivion I'm wearing my Storytelling badge with renewed pride. Storytelling is far from a "soft" skill in the business world; it is the essential, and often, missing piece in marketing strategy. Fast becoming a role companies are creating...someone to lead AI. In addition, CEOs are creating task forces for AI implementation - see McKinsey report I posted about earlier this month. I love how you framed this up, Elisa Camahort Page. It makes so much sense that we help companies help us and vice versa. Even though we've created this space of openness to other models, workers are still largely in a conversation with companies who are saying, "What will you do for me?" How will you contort your life to do this job? Or do you not want it badly enough? And inevitably someone will take that role under those circumstances. I think the balance is shifting though. Fewer of us will consider that role without negotiation, without compromise -- and not just for more money. Optionality #hiring #futureofwork
