I am not a fan of most canned advisories and white papers from the major consultant firms, which I rarely think are very useful (more on that later, if anyone cares). But this overview from Deloitte of major leadership topics in higher ed is excellent, good for people wanting an overview of the changing landscape from a leadership perspective. The only two issues I would add: (1) campus free speech and (2) cost structure. But everything here is excellent. Chronic absenteeism has been a persistent issue in the wake of the pandemic. While Indiana is doing better than the national average, and things are moving in the right direction, we still have around 200,000 students missing a month or more of school. To bring that to a local level, there are 74 schools across our state where half of the student population is missing a month or more of school. Chronically absent students are significantly less likely to read by third grade, master key ELA and math skills, or be college/career-ready. To support this work statewide, rather than just having an old-fashioned spreadsheet, which state's have always had, Indiana now has a transparent attendance dashboard that will make it easier to see and interact with the local and state data.
