What do you do if your conflict resolution efforts lack empathy?
Choose to be a student and listen and learn rather than lecture. One way to do this is to move away from what we call "double-dutch" style of communicating where we are waiting to jump in and let them know why we disagree with them. Our model of The Power of 3 is a simple way to listen to at least the 3rd Level of the conversation before you share. Ask more questions and if you don't know what to say, use "Tell me more!" Practive Level 3 Listening today with someone and fill in the gaps with curiosity, not conclusions.

How can you help peers find meaning and purpose in their lives?
What I have found in the research is that the word find is often associated with an external focus, while we believe that meaning and purpose can be brought with you which implies an inside out approach. Based on original job crafting research in 2001 (Amy Wrzesniewski and Jane E. Dutton) meaning and purpose can start from within in what we call 3 Rhythms. The Perspective Rhythm (How we choose to see things), The Task Rhythm (What we choose to do) and the Relationship Rhythm (Who we choose to engage). We have the power to bring meaning with us even in the most challenging of situations (if I can do it in the TSA line, everyone can do it 😎).

How can you maintain a positive work environment while meeting deadlines?
Leaders should consider ditching the old thought of the open-door policy as people sometimes struggle in silence with their deadlines and projects. What if you adopted what we call an Out-The-Door Policy where we leave our office (in-person or remote) to hear the perspectives of others and ask how you can best help them right where they are?

How can you maintain a positive work environment while meeting deadlines?
Look for ways to lift others in their work! In our firm, we call it #ExtravagantAppreciation, where we take a moment to celebrate others unusually, like a gift card or a hand-written note. ACTION: Once a week, celebrate someone extravagantly! Choose to ask more questions than assuming answers. Engage in the Power of 3 where you ask 3 relevant questions to better understand the perspective of others as we stop acting like we know things and begin growing in our learner's mindset!
