Dear analytical chemists:   Today, we reach out to you with a questionnaire to engage the GC-MS community at-large to identify the best practices applied in the application of GC-MS and comprehensive GCxGC-MS analysis. While many of us use this technology for nontargeted analysis (in various fields of science, applications and sample types), we also would like to encourage chemists to participate who use GC-MS for quantitative analyses of specific target compounds. Application areas may include the analyses of volatiles, semi-volatiles or compounds that require derivatizations. Over the next few weeks, this survey asks the GC-MS communities across the globe to give feedback on your lab routines, with the aim to summarize the best practices identified through a manuscript and associated workshops at national/international conferences.   Our initiative is part of the mQACC consortium ('metabolomics quality assurance and quality control") to engage the metabolomics community to promote the development, dissemination and harmonization of QA/QC best practices (see https://www.mqacc.org/). mQACC operates through a number of working groups. Review article published: A review on synthetic polypeptide-based blends with other polymers: Emerging trends and advances" Authors: Nanjundaswamy GS, Mahesh B, Alina Sionkowska and Channe Gowda D Abstract This review covers recent developments and progress in synthetic peptide-based polymer blending with other polymers and /or biopolymers as new materials. Considerable sequences of tropoelastin, such as poly(GVGVP), poly(GVGIP), poly(AVGVP), poly(AVGIP), poly[0.8(AVGVP), 0.2(AEGVP)], and other analogous polymer poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate), have been considered. The various blend materials of peptide-based polymers need to be summarized as they are necessary for academic and industrial applications, and this review showcases the expansions in the last ten years. The latest publications regarding the preparation and properties of polypeptides and their blends with different polymers have been assessed. New Application Note A Quick and Efficient Sample Cleanup for Biomolecule Analysis https://lnkd.in/gmFrhsyb A typical example is a monoclonal antibody formulated in histidine as a buffer and containing polysorbate 80 as stabilizer, among other components. We chose to investigate rituximab for this purpose. We looked at how these components interfered with intact protein analysis by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), a critical quality attribute. Using LC/MS we observed many of the glycoforms that were present as well as the excipients. But the use of AdvanceBio Spin columns allowed the undesirable components to be eliminated from the analysis. Deglycosylation and subsequent analysis of the released glycans using Gly-X InstantPC labeling enabled a more comprehensive analysis of the glycoforms present. Unfortunately, the histidine buffer contained a primary amine that can also react with the InstantPC reagent. We saw how AdvanceBio Spin columns can be used to perform a simple buffer exchange to an alternative buffer composition that did not interfere with the labeling reaction.
