Many innovative ideas can become obscured when communicated, which was a significant challenge for Patient Blood Management #PBM as it was introduced to benefit those suffering from #anemia, in hopes of enabling surgery without the use of donated blood upon leaving the ER (Emergency Room). The PBM educational approach supports bloodless surgical procedures. To reduce this obscurity, we are simplifying the message and increasing awareness, benefiting #researchers, manufacturers, and healthcare practitioners. Most importantly, we are enhancing the patient experience and raising public awareness. We are confident that many global organizations, healthcare providers, and blood management surgical equipment manufacturers will support our efforts as we continue to be pioneers in building a bridge of engagement for public access, which will benefit this field of medicine. 🥕🥑 🍎 The foods we eat impact our cholesterol, but its more important to comprehend the additional risk factors at play when it comes to our health. This Month, in observance to National Cholesterol Education month, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sandy Balwan encourages us to get to know the various types of cholesterol that affect our health and explore techniques to effective lowering. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that comes from two sources: food and your body. Your HDL or high density lipoprotein, helps to remove excess cholesterol from your blood and return it to the liver, where it is broken down. This is "good" cholesterol 👍. LDL, or low density lipoprotein, leads to a buildup of cholesterol in the arteries, where it can form plaques. This is the "bad" cholesterol 👎. Your total blood cholesterol is the sum of your HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, plus 20% of your triglyceride (most common type of fat in the body) levels. Maintaining a healthy cholesterol level is a great way to keep your heart healthy, as it can lower your chances of getting heart disease or having a stroke. Your healthcare professional will also consider other risks factors, such as age, family history, smoking status, diabetes and high blood pressure wen giving you health recommendations. Your total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol are among numerous factors your health care professional can input into health calculators enabling them to predict your lifetime or 10-year risk for a heart attack or stroke. The American Heart Association recommends all adults age 20 or older should have their cholesterol and other traditional risk factors checked. Beyond dietary choices, such as reducing saturated fats in your diet, staying active, and maintaining a health weight, can contribute to a healthier cholesterol lifestyle.
