“Dr. Omar Hatamleh is a truly gifted manager, particularly in an environment where one needs to be cognizant of, and sensitive to, multinational and multidisciplinary staff and characteristics. During the ~3 years Omar spent on assignment from NASA with the International Space University (ISU) as Executive Director for ISU's Space Studies Program (SSP) and a member of ISU's Executive Committee, I served as ISU's VP for North American Operations and had numerous interactions with Omar as well as opportunities to observe him "in action". He excelled in all the challenges he faced which were many -- working with individuals from many different countries, cultures, backgrounds, and level of experience spanning an incredible range that one finds at ISU. The SSP is ISU's flagship academic program, and with Omar at its helm, the high reputation of the SSP -- and ISU in general -- was not only sustained but was enhanced. Throughout this time with ISU, Omar not only impressed me with his ability to succeed at the highest level, but to always do so with humility and with generosity in sharing the credit with those he supervised. He has left a true legacy through the hundreds of young professionals throughout the world who attended ISU's SSP while Omar served as its Director, and are now ISU alumni destined to become leaders of public and private organizations that comprise the dynamic, growing global space community. NASA is extremely fortunate to have Dr. Hatamleh. While he represented ISU in a superb way, he also implicitly conveyed to the many up-and-coming leaders from around the world attending the SSP that NASA is more than a symbol; at its core NASA is its people, people like Dr. Hatamleh who are dedicated, passionate individuals of great talent and abilities who others truly enjoy working with and learning from. I feel very fortunate to call Omar a colleague. ”
