Then vs. Now Old me: ⏰ 9-6 Monday to Friday, all over the place after work, friends, gym if I felt like it , eating whatever whenever 🍕, sleeping whenever 💤. Weekends? Out late, brunches, you name it 🥂. Current me: Same 9-6 work, gym 3-4 times a week + 3 runs 🏃, eating clean on a schedule 🥗, and sleep by 10:30 🛌. Weekends? Could go out, could chill at home. The result? ✅ Healthier lifestyle   ✅ More energy & clearer mind   ✅ Better finances  Routine might mean fewer late nights with the your friends, but I’ve found people on the same page, friends who bring real support and growth, not just "are you in" friends! Embracing routine doesn’t mean you’re missing out. In fact ,it’s exactly what you need to level up 🚀

With a blink of an eye my 2 year anniversary, or #Amaversary as we like to call it at Amazon Web Services (AWS) is here! I'd like to use this opportunity to give a little credit: + AWS Customers, builders, and innovators. The reason why AWS is, for people like me, such an amazing place to work, is because we get to be there when our customers innovate, and contribute to make things happen. It is such a privilege and fun too! For example I could work with some of the largest players on the market when they entered the Generative AI era, and help them build something that doesn't just look good but actually matters. I got to review, contribute, sometimes even co-author their Data and AI strategies, and then helped to get them rolling. I could be there, when companies that are on the market for decades started to re-think their business models, re-think their product strategies, and together we explored what could be waiting for them beyond the horizon to reach new scale. Startups, so close to my heart since back in the day I lived their struggle too. Some of the most innovative ideas, and the boldest bets are coming from them, all while having the most skin in the game. The level of energy, the spark we created together, the limitless ideas, coming from all the bright minds chiming in, the innovation potential our customers transformed to something tangible and real, that never gets old. AWS is awesome because it attracts customers who want to experiment, and build amazing things. + #AWSOneTeam. My dear friend, and mentor Christopher Rae referred AWS as the place where smart people go to feel stupid. He probably used more polite and sophisticated way how to convey the message. But the #ImpostorSyndrome is real. Luckily we have folks like Hermann Schloss, my first manager at AWS, who when I joined shared with us how and where he failed. Doing this publicly normalized that failing is part of the mechanism we learn and improve. This was a lesson on how leadership can look like, what leading with vulnerability mean, and that it's OK to ask for help to overcome challenges. This was also an invitation to cherish diversity, as we all have something unique and special that raises the bar. I love Thinking Big with Dirk Fröhner, diving deep to understand the challenges with Michael Rambold, the ability to conceptualize complex, abstract thoughts Michael Hanisch has amazes me. The practical, challenging questions of Kilian Ruess, Alexander Günsche help to ensure the big ideas have a solid base. Salini Nair Avanupurath and her ability to raise difficult topics while putting people first is so important. And our raising stars, from Luca Schumann, Puria Izady, Stephan Schiller, to Lukas Wenzel, make me ashamed when I look back to see what I was doing my in 20s :) You are a shining example of a bar raising generation. Today, AWS announces the general availability of Amazon OpenSearch Service zero-ETL integration with Amazon S3, a new efficient way for customers to query operational logs in Amazon S3 data lakes eliminating the need to switch between tools to analyze data. Customers can quickly get started by installing out-of-the-box dashboards for AWS log types such as VPC Flow, WAF, and Elastic Load Balancer. Customers who use OpenSearch Service also use Amazon S3 as a cost-effective way to store infrequently-accessed operational log data. To perform analysis on Amazon S3 data and correlate data across multiple sources, customers previously had to copy that data into OpenSearch Service to take advantage of its rich analytics and visualization features that help them understand data, identify anomalies, and detect potential threats. However, continuously replicating data between services can be time consuming, expensive, and hard to maintain. With OpenSearch Service zero-ETL integration with Amazon S3, customers can access operational log data stored in Amazon S3 using OpenSearch Service, making it easier to perform complex queries and visualizations on their data without any data movement. https://lnkd.in/dN_YaCqd

This is a much bigger deal than it may seem! Shout out to Víctor Garcia and #FinopsWeekly for pointing it out. I hope AWS follows suit with more flexible RIs and SPs. https://lnkd.in/gYq7JGW3 What's it mean, and why does it matter? Google allows you to extend 1 year commitments up to 35 months and 3 year commitments up to 59 months. You can't shorten them, but you can lengthen them. Why does this matter? When companies finally realize they shouldn't pay on-demand rates, they want to save money TODAY. However, if all your commitments are purchased on the same day, then they all expire on the same day too. That's really bad because it sets a floor on your rightsizing and cost containment efforts, or places a ceiling on how much you're willing to commit. You want to spread your commit expirations out across the year to allow for more flexibility in reducing and evolving your footprint. With most vendors, they only way to do that is to KEEP paying on-demand rates as you slowly build up your commit profile. The ability to extend those initial commits in order to spread them out is a huge help for companies just getting started in commit management. PS. If you are on AWS, you can use the RI marketplace to help reduce this problem, and Crucial Clarity can help you do it. It's not nearly as simple as what GCP is offering here, but it is still possible to build out a robust and healthy commitment portfolio.
