“Keith and I worked together over the course of three years to develop both the alpha and beta products for RGHTCRWD. To me Keith is not only an extremely talented developer and manager, but also a person with incredible integrity. When we approached the launch of our alpha product, Keith was up until 4 AM on multiple occasions to ensure that deadlines were met and the product was as good as it could possibly be, even if that meant eating into his own profit margins. This ability to go above and beyond what is necessary is part of the reason why we returned to Keith and Twin Engine Labs to deliver our beta product and why I’d trust Keith wholeheartedly to do a fantastic job on any mobile development project I’m working on moving forward.”

All of that comes into one area where analysts watch for 911 calls. Once they see a call pop up on the map, they will take that and do everything to try either find video footage of the incident or find the requested information.”

Put a Maker in Charge
Want to get something done? Put a maker in charge. That’s just what happened in January 2019 when the newly elected Mayor Adrian Perkins of Shreveport, Louisiana, who’d made a Smart City platform central to his campaign, appointed Keith Hanson to be the city’s first Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Hanson, like Perkins, is young for a public official (both are 35) and a Shreveport native who is committed to retooling the city’s systems for the 21st century. Indeed, among the first plans they put in place was an interactive online budget — dubbed the “People’s Budget” — created with open source software to provide greater transparency into city spending, and the hiring of a dedicated data scientist, who quickly discovered an accounting oversight that reaped the cash-strapped city an unexpected windfall.

Shreveport puts technology on garbage trucks to find digital divide
KTBS
SHREVEPORT, La. -- Garbage trucks rolling all over the city are doing more than just hauling trash. They're helping the city work toward the goal of universal internet.
In what's believed to be the first such program in the nation, the city's technology team has hooked up mini-computers with GPS trackers to trash trucks. The gizmos detect where homes are hooked up to the internet -- and where they're not.

The data generates an interactive map. Chief Technology Officer Keith Hanson points to yellow and other bright colored tiles on the map that indicate where more homes are paying for an internet connection. Black tiles are areas where few homes are connected.

Shreveport CTO Keith Hanson Paying Dividends
Shreveport Times
Hiring the City of Shreveport’s first chief technology officer is a decision that’s paying off for the city as Keith Hanson's efforts found more than $2 million in open purchase orders that had no transactions or activity on them.
Hanson’s position did not exist before Mayor Adrian Perkins took office. Taking on the role involved Hanson reorganizing and bringing the city’s IT department into the 21st century with new staff as well as new technology.

Hanson’s position did not exist before Mayor Adrian Perkins took office. Taking on the role involved Hanson reorganizing and bringing the city’s IT department into the 21st century with new staff as well as new technology.
“Things were in a pretty sad state when I got here,” Hanson told The Times this week. “One of the first things I did was create a special projects team who reports directly to me. The purpose of this team is to pick one major accomplishment to get done every three months.”
Shreveport’s first Chief Technology Officer Keith Hanson has already help save the city money.
One of those team members is the data scientist. It’s the data scientist’s job to upload all of the data the city has into what’s called a data warehouse or data lake, which is how the $2 million was found.

Bloomberg Innovator of the Week
Bloomberg
When Keith Hanson in January left the small software company he started in Shreveport to become that city’s first chief technology officer, he brought one thing with him: his inventiveness.
“I bootstrapped my company — I didn’t have tons of money to get it off the ground,” he said, noting one similarity to working in a mid-sized city with modest budgets. “We don’t get tons of funds. That means I’ve got to get scrappy. There’s always a solution, even if there’s duct tape and glue…When Keith Hanson in January left the small software company he started in Shreveport to become that city’s first chief technology officer, he brought one thing with him: his inventiveness.
