For those of you who are on a PC and use PerfectIt, IntelligentEditing has put out this message (apparently PerfectIt Cloud is fine): We’re getting early reports that the next update to Word won't work with PerfectIt. Please don't worry. Microsoft have done this before. We’ll have a fix ASAP (hopefully within the next few weeks). Anthropic's 3.5 Sonnet's "Computer Use" feature is pretty interesting. It can now interact directly with a computer's desktop environment, replacing much of what traditional RPA used to handle. Imagine AI not just running scripts but manipulating your desktop like a human would—that’s where things are heading. It’s a big leap for automation, and I’m excited to see how this changes the landscape. https://lnkd.in/dYw8Tify. The "computer use" naming is meh, but despite the naming convention, the use case possibilities are endless.

This industry is being subjected to Business Model Metastasis by increasing numbers of software vendors. So you see some software, you try it out and it does what it says on the tin. You buy it for your company at a relatively reasonable price. Use of the software spreads internally and teams start to rely on it. The next year's renewal the price goes up, it's a bit painful but the software still has value. Then the next year, the software company changes its business model, getting rid of low-cost tiers, which means it's going to cost more again but looking back at the updates, the development has headed off in a different direction to chase other markets. The next year, the software company changes business model again and now they want to charge a percentage of every project value. Now multiply this by the number of software vendors you subscribe to. How are AEC firms supposed to stay in control of their IT budgets when business models of the software firms update more often than the software? Sound familiar? Snapshots: Did you know your Snapshots are auto saved taking up valuable Storage space. Stop Auto Saving to OneDrive. To stop this: Open Snipping Tool>Settings>Turn off – Automatically Save Screenshots. You might like to DELETE all your years worth of snapshots. To delete open Windows Explorer>Find Pictures Folder> Delete Snapshots #MicrosoftofficeTips PS: IF anyone knows how to stop my photos appearing in Google Photos and chewing up my Google Drive data, without deleting them off my phone that would be great.

I'm updating some content that was converted from Rise to dominKnow Flow and I am so excited at the number of things I can do directly in the application. Whether it is text and object animations, customizing interactions or adding custom triggers and actions, the control I have directly in Flow is amazing. I can do so much without having to create the interaction in another tool... for instance today, I'm so happy to add in glossary items to my text. The cool thing is that if this glossary item needs to be used consistently across courses/projects and collections it can be easily incorporated in other courses. Created once and re-used! And the consistency - all the same across the different modules. The theme you select for the project determines if you have a glossary item at the menu level - for this project it is not important to have that, but I could easily change and update the project if that became a request down the road. This screen capture shows the glossary term and how it is displayed when it is selected. Assigning the same term throughout the course is as simple as three clicks!

Simplifying Documentation with Scribe As I’m currently working on an article about automating document delivery using Make for Calendly meetings, I quickly ran into the usual roadblock: documenting every step. The process of manually recording all the steps and taking screenshots can be tedious, and it was slowing me down from creating more how-to articles. Even I fall into the trap of not automating something when I should. That is why we all need to keep asking ourselves if there is a better way to get something done. So, I asked myself the question and that’s when I decided to look for a better way—and I found Scribe. This tool automatically recorded all my mouse clicks and took the necessary screenshots, streamlining the entire process. Not only did it capture the steps accurately, but it also allowed me to focus more on the content rather than constantly pausing to take screenshots. Of course, there’s still work to be done. After Scribe generates the documentation, I go back and add context and detail, but it’s already saved me hours. What used to be a time-consuming task has now become much more efficient, freeing me up to focus on creating valuable content. If you’re tired of manually documenting your processes and are looking for a smarter solution, I highly recommend giving Scribe a try. In my latest blog post, I explore another Storyline and JavaScript example using Query Strings. Query strings allow you to pass in information from a URL. Add something to the end of the course URL, and the course can pick it up and update a variable and, with that variable, change information within the course.  This could be useful if you want to direct learners down different pathways, update content based on what URL you send them for different content, or even pass in the actor information for xAPI statements. I've been going through the process to upgrade my #Microsoft Account to include #Copilot Pro #AI. Here are the steps I've taken: 1. Buy new Windows 11 laptop (I was overdue anyway) 2. Upgrade subscription to Office 365 for business account 3. Set up free trial of CoPilot Pro (get first 30 days free right now -- then extra $20 a month) 4. Update licenses of personal and business Microsoft software 5. Download updates for all Microsoft 365 applications (this was in background while still working) 6. Restart all Microsoft applications (Outlook, New Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) ... a few times for Outlook! 7. Look for and verify new Copilot button is appearing in top bar of options in all primary software tools. I had to do several "open and close" operations in each software tool before I started to see the Copilot button. It appeared first in Word and PowerPoint, but it took a while before I saw it in my Outlook -- several open and close cycles. But I am now seeing it in all of my software tools and plan to start now making specific YouTube tutorial videos of how I'm using Copilot within my normal e-mail and other software activities. So, watch for these new videos soon! And have a great holiday next week!
