The Sarasota City Commission has approved amendments to the zoning code and comprehensive plan to regulate and encourage #solarenergy production. These changes, approved unanimously on the first reading, classify #solar utilities within industrial general and industrial heavy zoning districts. This move responds to a 2022 Florida State Senate bill mandating local regulation of floating solar facilities on bodies of water. The updated guidelines, submitted to the state last November, aim to bolster clean energy development. Sarasota's new regulations will help pave the way for more solar facilities, contributing to the city's clean energy supply. Though space is limited, city planners are exploring potential sites for future solar projects. Commissioner Erik Arroyo emphasized that these amendments keep Sarasota at the forefront of energy innovation, job creation, and sustainability. The North American Energy Markets Association is posting this RFP on behalf of our member the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Introduction: This announcement constitutes a Request for Proposal (RFP) notice soliciting proposals from qualified solar energy providers to design, engineer, build, operate, and maintain a photovoltaic (PV) power generation facility at a specific site designated by TVA. This RFP does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that TVA will take action in this matter. TVA will not be responsible for any costs incurred in furnishing TVA responsive information. TVA is interested in understanding the current availabilities, flexibilities, and preferences of market participants interested in developing a PV generation facility within the Lawrence County Solar footprint (Site). TVA has developed the Site and is now considering the transfer of this Site and procured assets for the Site via a real property easement/lease, and transfer documents for PV panels, and GPU transformer to a selected third party. The third party will construct, operate, and maintain the Site in conformance with the easement/lease and fulfill the obligations of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with TVA. General Background:  TVA is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies, serving more than 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving its revenues from sales of electricity. US to Add 7.3 GW DC of Community Solar by 2029: Wood Mackenzie Report The U.S. community solar market is set to grow significantly, with 7.3 GW DC expected to be added by 2029, bringing total installations to over 14 GW DC, according to a Wood Mackenzie report in partnership with the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA). Despite a projected annual growth rate of 5% through 2026, the market may contract by 11% annually from 2026 to 2029. Legislation in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin could drive additional growth, boosting the market by up to 17% in a bullish scenario. However, the recent decision on California community solar has led to a 14% reduction in the national outlook.
