Many innovative ideas can become obscured when communicated, which was a significant challenge for Patient Blood Management #PBM as it was introduced to benefit those suffering from #anemia, in hopes of enabling surgery without the use of donated blood upon leaving the ER (Emergency Room). The PBM educational approach supports bloodless surgical procedures. To reduce this obscurity, we are simplifying the message and increasing awareness, benefiting #researchers, manufacturers, and healthcare practitioners. Most importantly, we are enhancing the patient experience and raising public awareness. We are confident that many global organizations, healthcare providers, and blood management surgical equipment manufacturers will support our efforts as we continue to be pioneers in building a bridge of engagement for public access, which will benefit this field of medicine. "I aim in this book to provide the latest research and information around symptoms, organ systems, and the many ways that women can seek to treat their symptoms to ensure that they don’t have to suffer but can, in fact, thrive in the latter portion of their lives. Each woman is unique and it’s so important that she understands what is going on with her own body so that she can advocate for herself. Great piece by Juliana "Julie" Reed in @Stat outlining the missed savings for the US healthcare system including employers and patients that have been caused by #PBMs greed in choosing higher priced drugs because all of the price concessions and profits they make are based on the list price of the drug. It never was a physician’s choice to choose a biosimilar as the PBMs control that. Now the big 3 ins cos/PBMs are mandating “fail first”biosimilars that physicians can’t afford to buy based on the cost of the drug and underwater reimbursement. We will never realize the true potential of biosimilar savings until the perverse incentive to choose medications that make the most money for these publicly traded PBMs is taken out of formulary construction.

Walgreens and Boehringer Ingelheim announced a strategic collaboration aimed at optimizing recruitment and making clinical trials more accessible, inclusive and equitable. This collaboration will offer people an opportunity to learn about and potentially participate in an important Phase III clinical trial within the familiar and accessible environment of Walgreens pharmacies, reflecting a shared vision to expand access to healthcare and research. Through this collaboration, Boehringer Ingelheim will leverage select Walgreens community pharmacies as clinical trial sites for people living with obesity, overweight and type 2 diabetes. The effort aims to dismantle barriers, improve access, and address equitable health representation in clinical trials, especially among Black and Hispanic adults who are more likely to have obesity in the U.S. and have historically been underrepresented. "Embracing our pharmacy clinical trial centers in this study underscores our joint commitment to community health and innovation," said Ramita Tandon, Chief Clinical Trials Officer at Walgreens. "This model not only provides foundational education on clinical research for patients but also empowers individuals, offering them a new pathway to engage in their healthcare through clinical trial participation. It's a step forward in transforming the landscape of clinical research, helping to make clinical trials more inclusive and accessible." Has Regeneron been successful with EYLEA HD® (aflibercept) Injection HCP as the patent for regular Eylea expires in June 2027? There will be 5 biosimilars, including 2 labeled as interchangeable, available next year. Regeneron reported their earnings yesterday and below 👇 you see their quarterly sales of both regular Eylea and HD. Sales of Eylea HD grew 30% Q over Q from $304M to $392M ($40M of Q3 is due to increased distributor inventories). But is that enough? The problem is over $1.1 B or 2/3 of Eylea sales remain in regular Eylea. With loss of its patent, Eylea will lose its pricing power, its moat, entirely. It will become one of 6 equivalent commodities. Basic economics dictates that without a moat, competition will drive prices to marginal costs and the profits to zero. The stock market seems to agree with my analysis as $REGN stock is down 10% overnight and 30% in 2 months. In the end, patients will be the winners. #retina #ophthalmology #optometry
