What can sales managers do to help team members improve collaboration?
To me this is the only option that fits. You cannot and will not succeed trying to mandate collaboration and offering praise and asking for input may set an example of collaboration, but that is typically not enough. the world today is Anti-Collaborative, it is spending more time every day teaching people how not to collaborate that you, as a manager can ever undo. People come to you in a selfish and protectionist state. So, You have to not only set the example but you need to educate and prove that collaboration yields better results and then you must teach people what that means, what collaboration is and what it is not.

How can you build strong relationships with decision-makers?
The terminology “decision maker” can actually steer you in the wrong direction. Often as people seek out the illusive title holder they trample on others and treat them as insignificant. The reality is that today most companies do not have a single decision maker, most acquisitions involve a collaborative effort, even the CEO seeks guidance from legal, finance, HR and other departments that are deemed vital. Rather than focusing on a single person ask questions that help you to identify “the team” that will be “involved” in the decision.

The way we sell has been forever transformed by the way people buy. The idea that selling has changed is not new – what is new are the approaches, techniques and overall philosophy described in sales shift. Frank Belzer draws on his years helping marketers and sales people work together and shares these skills and insights. What do buyers no longer need from sales people? What do all buyers want from sales people? How can sales people help without being pushy? Why should a sales strategy harmonize with an inbound marketing strategy and how do you do that? Great questions, well answered in Sales Shift.
