Access to healthcare is a critical issue in rural areas, and South Texas is no different. The shortage of healthcare providers, particularly those specializing in addiction treatment, exacerbates the problem. According to the Rural Health Research Center, more than 60% of rural Americans live in areas with a shortage of mental health professionals. This scarcity hinders the ability of individuals to receive timely and effective treatment.
