We often focus on "active shooter" scenarios; however, the tools of destruction can take many forms. These can include drones, bladed weapons, explosives, chemicals, and in this instance, a vehicle. Imagine if this had been an electric vehicle. Consider the impact of a 6000 pound car even moving slowly. Workplace violence is not limited to shootings; any weapon, especially improvised ones, must be carefully considered. We need to be proactive about addressing environmental changes, such as the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), which may exacerbate this threat. Robert Reiter - thoughts?

When a U.S. Marshall is killed in the line of duty, every one of us is somehow less: who we are-- and what we believe to be right. When three are killed in a single encounter with a felon who has eluded other agencies, it is an even more profound a tragedy. The loss of respect for law enforcement is not new, but it is impacting morale and recruitment in a devastating manner. We need every candidate for every elected office to speak out and tell us what they will do- not merely feel-- about the need to support the women and men of law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals deal with the worst of the worst. They need us. And we need them.

FBI “Honeypot” or Whistleblower Smokescreen? Let the Truth be known! If the FBI's alleged “honeypot” is real, it's a betrayal of public trust. If it’s fabricated, it’s equally disgraceful. We've seen something like this before. J. Edgar Hoover reportedly kept secret files under lock and key, guarded by his iron-fisted secretary, Helen Gandy. Those files were hidden from the public eye. Hillary Clinton’s email server was an electronic “vault” of secrets that never fully came to light. Even Nixon kept his own hidden record of oval office tapes—though eventually, they did see daylight. Now, FBI Director Christopher Wray has a job to do: get to the truth, fast. Trust, confidence, and the support of the Bureau are once again on the line. Here’s the hard path forward: 1. Subpoena every relevant record, no exceptions. 2. Put each player under oath, with perjury charges on the table. 3. Polygraph everyone involved—not as evidence in court, but to illuminate the truth by exposing any cracks in the story. 4. Launch another Special Prosecutor investigation with full authority to dig deep and find the truth. 5. Fire bureaucratic story-tellers, and prosecute lawbreakers. 6. In the interests of transparency and accountability, report to the public. No more secrets. No more games. No more “honeypots.”

Good morning ☕ Here are key global events you should be aware of headed into the week (9/16): ▪ The #SecretService fired at an armed man near former President #Trump at a Florida golf course on Sunday, in what authorities are investigating as an apparent assassination attempt. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, fled but was later apprehended. Trump was about 300-500 yards away from the gunman and remained unharmed. Investigators recovered a rifle, scope, and GoPro camera at the scene. While Routh's motives remain unclear, he has a history of law enforcement encounters and had previously criticized Trump on social media.    ▪ Severe #flooding in central Europe has left at least 10 dead and displaced over 10,000 people, with the worst-hit areas in the Czech Republic and #Poland. Torrential rains, caused by a low-pressure system, triggered rivers to overflow, damaging thousands of homes and bridges. Poland’s Prime Minister announced a state of disaster and is seeking EU aid. Emergency services are actively evacuating residents, and more rain is expected. #Hungary is preparing for rising water levels along the Danube River as the situation remains critical across the region.    ▪ Indian police detained around 100 Samsung workers and union leaders in southern #India for organizing a #protest without permission, escalating an ongoing strike at a Samsung plant near Chennai. Workers have been striking for seven days, demanding higher wages and recognition of their union, disrupting production at the facility, which contributes significantly to Samsung's revenue in India. The protest was organized by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).    ▪ The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a bombing in #Pakistan's Balochistan province, which killed two police officers and injured two others over the weekend. The attack targeted a police vehicle in Kuchlak, near Quetta. The attack is indicative of a growing collaboration between Islamic militants and local separatist groups in the region, which has seen frequent violence aimed at security forces. The bombing highlights ongoing instability in the oil and gas-rich province bordering Iran and Afghanistan.     ▪ UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that discussions are ongoing with allies about allowing #Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian targets. NBC News--DEA operation exposes growing links between Sinaloa cartel and Chinese organized crime (18 June 2024) Twenty-four associates of the Sinaloa cartel based in Los Angeles have been charged in a complex scheme to launder over $50 million in drug money. The money was laundered through an underground banking system operated by Chinese nationals in the United States. The 10-count superseding indictment outlines a case that brings attention to the increasing partnership between Mexican cartels and Chinese individuals in the U.S., as well as the elaborate system they have established to fund drug operations and launder money, according to authorities. Active Shooter Strategic Planning and Risk Management: A “Belts and Suspenders” Approach to Address Active Shooter Challenges To leverage all available capabilities to prepare for and address an active shooter incident, schools and organizations must think methodically and determine the steps which may be applied before an attack and what security measures may be implemented to stop an attack – Belts and Suspenders. There are 4 critical aspects to this approach: 1.      Pre-Attack Intervention – Identification of Violent Ideation and Indicative Behaviors 2.      Attack Prevention – Deter, Detect, Delay, Respond 3.      Integrated Defense-in-Depth – Multiple Layers of Mutually Supportive Security Procedures and Technology 4.      Security Operations Center and Crisis Interoperability Capabilities - Communicate intelligence developed from the above steps and integrated systems to responding law enforcement for situational awareness and a common operating picture.
