OAAA President and CEO Anna Bager presented last week at the Digital Out of Home Insider Summit. She revealed the key findings of an OAAA study showing how reallocating $$$ to out-of-home increases ad spend ROI.  Here is a part of Anna’s talk we found very interesting. The future belongs to digital out-of-home and programmatic! Today about 67% of the revenue and a little bit more of the inventory is static but digital out-of-home is where most of the growth is coming from.  This year it’s going to grow by 16% and by 2027 it’s going to be 45% of all out-of-home media…so it’s an exciting space to be sure.  Programmatic is driving a lot of that growth. Programmatic will probably reach around a billion dollars today and by 2026, it will be 30% of all digital out-of-home advertising, so programmatic is leading the way… We have a lot to do shortly, but we are definitely in the right direction! #programmatic #progrmmaticbuying #ooh #dooh #pdooh #oohads #rtb #taggify #oaaa

Winning with Product Differentiation I believed in offering something different from my competitors. When we launched, we sold CertainTeed 50-year shingles, almost double the cost of the standard 30-year options. Jerry Gorombol at ABC Supply Co. Inc. told us we were the only ones in the market selling them—and I loved that. Why? It meant we didn’t have to compete on price alone. If you try to sell two identical slices of cheese pizza for $1 and $2, everyone picks the $1 slice. But add $0.50 worth of pepperoni, and you can sell it for $5 if the customer wants it bad enough. Is your shift to online orders demotivating your sales team? Because you might be pulling the rug from under their feet by accident.   We help wholesale distribution sales teams hit sales targets, and more and more wholesalers are encouraging customers to place orders online.   I was talking to an automotive parts wholesaler, and they said six years ago they took 20% of their orders online and 80% via phone. Now it's the opposite. And they've been driving that shift because they want more people to place orders themselves online.   This change is partly about lowering costs. It costs less for businesses if people place orders online. They don't need staff to answer phones.   But it’s also about making ordering easier for customers, who can order any time that suits their needs. And of course, when customers order online, there’s the opportunity to showcase other products and upsell.   So, there are lots of upsides, which is why online sales are a growing focus with many distributors,   But it’s important for businesses to ask themselves, how visible are those web sales to a rep?   Because if you’re asking your reps to visit customers and encourage them to order online, your reps need to be able to track those sales just as easily as they can track those orders they take themselves.   How easy is it for your reps to see online orders?   Can they see at a glance that a customer’s online orders are up 30% compared to last year?   Can they check online sales are trending the right way? Your sales reps need to be able to access that sort of information before a sales call, so they can have sales conversations that drive more orders online.   And conversely, there's the potential for the lack of that data to really demotivate your sales team if the knock-on effect of their sales efforts becomes invisible to them.   We’re building tracking web sales as a percentage of all sales into Numerik, so watch this space.
