Should your #CreditUnion be using Influencers? It depends. While influencer marketing is the flashy topic right now, charter sizes often limit how effectively you can use them. Here's a quick thought: Most influencers have an audience that spans many states, which means you will pay to reach audiences you may not be able to serve. Credit Unions that have full state, multi-state, or national charters will benefit from the partnership because more influencer followers could potentially be new members. If your Credit Union operates under a smaller charter, there's no need to fear. You can still be a part of the excitement. User Generated Content, also known as UGC, presents a promising alternative. It's a fantastic way to create videos that mirror the reels, stories, and short explainer videos you encounter daily. The creator is well versed in creating platform-specific content (Facebook, TikTok, Youtube, Etc.) but does not have an audience to leverage. This means you aren't paying a premium for their audience; you're only paying for their expertise to craft content that can better connect you with your audience. #influencers #ugc

Curious Media officially started doing business in 2004. It wasn’t Randy Jamison's first attempt, but it was his last. 20 years later and we are still at it! In the early years of Curious Media, most of the work we did was for a handful of Boise marketing agencies like Temel aka Zeta Interactive, Oliver Russel, Rizen Creative and Foerstel. These companies mostly relied on Curious Media for our sweet Flash & web development skills. This included a multitude of websites, Flash banners and ad modules (yeah we were responsible for some of those #sorrynotsorry) as well as interactive product demonstrations. It was a great way to cut our teeth in the world of interactive. Through these agencies we had the opportunity to work on projects for HP, Cisco, Juviderm, Citibank and a bunch of Idaho local organizations like The Idaho Potato Commission (#truestereotypes). We collaborated on dozens of projects with some really amazing project managers, creative directors and marketing professionals like: Chris Blakeman Heidi Dean, PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, CSPO Tim Nichols Aubrey Abbott Erika Molchan-Evans Ron Baker Holly Funk Russ Stoddard Heidi Kelly And many more…  We were so thankful for the guidance and trust that we received from these experienced marketing pros. We thought that becoming a full service marketing agency was the ultimate goal of Curious Media. In our free time for fun we would make games, animations and weird little widgets like Mr. Alligator (a random sentence generating alligator) and interactive web experiences like Stinkerdoodle (a massive collaborative online drawing space). But we didn't really think this stuff could ever pay the bills.      In 2008 or 2009 one random meeting at a Flash Forward conference in Seattle would change our trajectory. Randy met Claudia Correa Salhab who was there representing Disney Interactive, the group that managed the website for Disney Channel. Claudia was incredibly kind and always responded and provided encouragement each time Randy reached out with his random interactive side projects. Eventually Claudia would help arrange a meeting that led to our first project for Disney. At this point we rapidly pivoted and started focusing almost exclusively on the children’s interactive media space. Somehow we were now getting paid to produce content that we previously only made for fun. 🤯 This went against everything our parents told us about work and the real world! Including a small collage of some of our early Boise agency work! #throwbackthursday

We've done some strategy and creative work with a couple of wonderful credit unions. As business has evolved out of the shareholder primacy era and into the purpose era, the lines are blurred between for-profit organizations and co-ops, credit unions and not for profits. Wrapping themselves in a purpose blanket isn't enough when the banks are doing the same thing. If you calculate the total amount of financial community contributions, I'm sure the big banks directly contribute more to communities than credit unions do. But it's not about quantity of cash. It's about purpose and definition. We NEED credit unions. The huge consolidation we've seen in the credit union space is a start. But it's not enough. They're aging out and need to attract younger members. Here, McKinsey lays out 6 other imperatives to secure their future. Double down on the legacy of social impact. Meet new members where they are. Invest in personalization. Update tech. Use AI to improve customer experience. Explore partnerships.

It's the nuanced, often unexpected marketing skills that transform campaigns from being just another voice among the static to an impactful and memorable touchpoint for your audience.   It takes 👇 ● Understanding data: We've heard it before, and it will remain true. Marketers who have a deep understanding of potential customers' behaviors and the success rates of their offerings can set themselves up for long-term success. ● Empathy mapping: Customers care about various topics and product touchpoints that can influence purchasing decisions. Learn your customers' personas, how they can change through a product's lifecycle, and how you can address what matters to them. ● Comfort with new technologies: Remember to continuously evolve alongside the technologies that resonate with different customer segments, especially new generations of consumers.
