When someone says, "We need to get everyone on the same page," I always say, "Show me that page." I have created a one-page brand plan. While a PowerPoint presentation is a great way to get management approval, no one will read it a second time. Putting it on a share drive or printing it off won't help. But if you can narrow everything you presented to one page, you could give everyone on the team a copy to pin near their desk or keep in a briefcase. Don’t let your need for perfect customer data create unnecessary user friction. A few days ago I attempted to complete an online registration form in order to download an analyst report from a SaaS company. Phone number was a required field. I tried THREE times to paste my phone number into that field, each time in a different variation, each time getting an error message saying that I was formatting the data incorrectly (XXX-XXX-XXXX.) Eventually, I discovered that if I typed the number without dashes, contrary to what the form was telling me was the required format, the form would submit. Most prospects would have already abandoned. (I was more determined.) One, requiring a phone number on a B2B registration form these days is a mistake. By all means ask for it if you must, but requiring the data is akin to telling the prospect to expect a phone call. It’s easy enough to append or ask for that data down the road. You don’t need it. Secondly, don’t force your internal rules for data validation or lead routing on a potential customer. Again, there are plenty of ways – manual and automated - to clean up data on your dime, without creating barriers for someone who’s trying to learn more about your solution. #demandgen #ux #marketingdata

I've learned so much about measurement and attribution over the past 2 years- perhaps through sheer necessity 😆 My main takeaway: there is no single source of truth. Rather, marketers need to develop a budget decision making framework that includes separate use cases for different measurement methodologies.
