“I worked directly for Edgardo during the period of defining the Global strategy for the PwC brand. This involved a rigorous process to determine the role of brand in the context of refreshed business priorities, the merits of alternate strategic positionings based on data and best practices, and identifying the implications for executing the strategy and managing the brand longer term (eg; Brand management). This was all done as part of an overall strategic review for the PwC Network which Edgardo designed and led. I have regarded this period as a major turning point for the PwC brand and learning experience for myself. Turning point because, having an appreciation of the strategic role of brand, Edgardo ensured that brand was part of the broader business strategy from the outset. I think that's fairly unique in professional services where brand can just default to "logo". A learning experience for myself because I was able to see first hand how to position and support a business case with senior leadership, and steer through a disruptive set of recommendations bringing a wide set of stakeholders along in the process. What I observed about Edgardo in this process was (i) his ability to bring new thinking to an already established leadership team in a way they appreciated, rather than in a way that might have seemed threatening, (ii) his capacity for hard work, keeping numerous balls in the air at the same time and then being able to land them all in a way that tied them all together and provided a coherent path forward for a very complex organization, (iii) his pragmatism - rather than aiming for perfection, realizing when things were more likely to be a process of migration and negotiation, (iv) his understanding of brand and unwavering support in getting brand a "seat at the table", and (v) willingness to take time to coach his team on fine-tuning the argument and position it for a senior audience. Always with enthusiasm, patience and good humor. Edgardo clearly left his mark on PwC and those who worked for him. This subsequently enabled me to go on and relaunch the brand worldwide. The results of this (eg; brand value from $9bn to $22Bn) are testament to the direction he put us on. He left the organization better than he found it and took his team to the next level of professionalism.”
