This article provides a helpful summary of the changes to Section 504 and the ADA and when these new updates will come into effect. The biggest change is that these laws are adopting the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. Benchmarking to see how other are assuring yiur instructiuonal techniques meet the needs of the modern learner. Also, how do you assure the needs of the modrn learner are being met? Thanks in advance for any insight

These are all great tips, but I disagree that "You MAY also want to try and do what people aren't supposed to do." I think this is a CRITICAL step that any good e-Learning QA process MUST include. So often, we just test our e-Learning courses by taking them in order as we expect the typical user to do, but users may end up doing things out of order, accidentally click somewhere they weren't supposed to, or go backwards in a course to review something and then rapidly navigate out again, and if course isn't thoroughly tested to see how it behaves when unexpected behavior occurs, it may well break in those situations. Needless to say, when a learner is stuck and the course appears to be broken, they're going to get frustrated, they're not going to be learning, and the credibility of the course and the team that created it may get called into question. So I implore you e-Learning developers out there: thoroughly test your courses and do ALL the things people aren't supposed to do.

Ever heard of something called “behavioral systems” and wondered what it was about? This piece, by Emiliano Diaz Del Valle, Chaning Jang, and Stephen Wendel from the Busara Center, provides an excellent introduction. To wit: Most people doing applied be-sci know that people and their behaviors don’t sit in isolation from a broader world of social and environmental influences – yet that doesn’t stop us from adopting an attitude toward behavior that can, at times, be quite person-centric, leading us to give short shrift to these broader influences as we treat the individual and their immediate context as the locus of behavioral drivers and, thus, the target of intervention. Yet there’s a world of work being conducted at social impact agencies that challenges the assumption that we can solve many complex societal problems simply by working at the level of the individual whose behavior happens to capture our immediate attention and interest. This work, combined with a healthy recognition of the limitations of BE-based interventions, has led to the development of an approach that looks to widen the focus by systematically unpacking the broader system of social, structural, environmental, and institutional influences in which the individual is embedded, giving us tools to: -- See the system in all its complexity, capturing not only all the relevant actors in it, but also the complex web of causal interconnections between them -- Discover hidden leverage points that may have a profound impact on a given actor’s behavior however upstream in the system they may appear -- Pressure-test intervention ideas in ways that take account the consequences of systems dynamics that can be difficult to predict It’s a form of be-sci that can seem a little overwhelming if your work isn’t focused on solving wicked problems in public health, poverty alleviation, etc., but it’s one that’s absolutely worth the effort digging into if you want your toolkit to be well-rounded: -- It can empower you to tackle any challenge where the complex interplay of stakeholders and system components is key to understanding the behavior of people for whom you need to design or develop effective behavior change solutions -- It complements other ways of thinking about behavior, so it adds to vs. replaces what you may already know about people when looking at them from other angles -- It can lead to solutions that will be more broadly effective and also more resilient -- And it’s a natural fit if you’re already inclined to thinking about behavioral drivers in a dynamic, holistic way Pretty powerful stuff.
