It is our work to examine what they might be protecting, what costs they are exacting, what opportunities might exist when we acknowledge and affirm them rather than shunning them or letting them take center stage. Another key insight from the 85-year "Harvard Study of Adult Development" is the impact of consistent responsibility on children's self-esteem. Coupled with quality relationships and emotional support, consistent responsibility plays a vital role in building self-esteem in children. Providing age-appropriate chores and responsibilities early in life allows children to contribute to the household, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-worth. This helps them feel valued and capable of making meaningful contributions. Key findings from the study include: - Responsibility fosters high self-esteem: Children who engage in chores and responsibilities during childhood demonstrate higher self-esteem in adulthood compared to those who do not. - Early work exposure matters: Introducing children to work experiences, even through simple tasks, positively influences their self-perception and ability to tackle challenges. - Moving beyond praise: While praising children is beneficial, it is equally important to provide opportunities for them to showcase their abilities as this nurtures their self-esteem effectively. Her quote, "an act of observation is an act of love," gave me chills. 🌍 Value of History: Sloka's perspective on our place in history, whether in art or science, made me think. Just as Bharatanatyam has deep roots, science builds on past discoveries. History matters in every field. 💫 Rethinking Beauty: Sloka's work with older adults challenged my view of beauty, which has been shaped by our shared culture and media. Love seeing programs like these for founders. It's a big step in the right direction. HOWEVER, these programs are almost always one-sided. They focus on the founder - providing resources to help protect their well being. That's great! A+! Show me more of that, please! BUT what's missing here is education for VCs on how to intentionally manage healthy relationships with their founders. SO MUCH of this pressure and damaging stress founders need programs like these to heal from comes from their investors! I experienced it and every other founder I know work with today does, too. The real difference-maker and true opportunity for impact here is in helping VCs actually BE as "founder friendly" as they claim to be. Helping them understand the impact they have on their founder. Helping VCs create intentionally positive and supportive relationships with their founders. Helping investors understand how to relate to and serve their underrepresented founders who need MORE and DIFFERENT support, connection, and encouragement. If these exist, please tell me. I really want to get connected to them and help them grow.

Pomp, pedigree, and prestige do NOT protect against, and nor do they prevent, antisemitism, anti-Zionism, small mindedness, bigotry, and hatred. What often helps is shining a bright light into the darkness and Robert Friedman does just that. An effective way to combat ignorance and hatred is through education and exposure. Such a strategy doesn't lead to rapid change, but that's ok. We Jews have been battling antisemitism and anti-Zionism for thousands of years. We can hang on for a few more.
