Fossecave comments "Regular 'intermediate checks' with smaller work packages can help reduce the downtime of narrow-body aircraft, however, the effectiveness of this solution depends on the age of the aircraft. For instance, if an aircraft has structural damage due to corrosion, a shorter turnaround time may not be feasible. in such cases, more time may be necessary to ensure the aircraft is still released on time." Most supply chains are ethical but some are not. It happens in manufacturing recessions and we are in one. Typically, forecasts are reviewed, verified with end OEM customers, orders placed and then the slow down hits. The OEM pushes out orders. Thats fine to a point but they use words like "partner" then they seek other partners if you aren't willing to be their bank. Had a major prospective OEM ask us to quote a package they wanted to "resource the package immediately". We dig deeper and found out they provided 2022 and 2023 eau's. Lets get a lower piece price on volumes that are down 30% in real time. Very disappointed by this multi national OEM. Not our first rodeo here at JEC. My advice to the supply chain executive was be a partner and work it out with your current vendor. Please share this post if you agree.

Hey, Pratt & Whitney, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Collins Aerospace, RTX... pull in close, I have to tell you something, and you’re not going to like it. Your supply chain can’t comply with your insanely complex requirements, nor do you really want them to. If the “entire supply chain” obeys your batshit insane requirements, the cost of every nut and bolt will be so high, you will be out of business in a week. Because you are literally driving away key lower-tier suppliers who have low risk, but who sell to your tier 1 suppliers. Those small machine shops are not your problem, you morons. It’s the big guys you’re buying from, you know, the ones you don’t dare hold accountable because then you’d have no suppliers. So just stop already. Do the hard work and figure out exactly which suppliers in your supply chain need these requirements, and apply it to them on a case-by-case basis. Stop making up impossible requirements and thinking you have enough stick in the industry to flow it down to everyone. You don’t. You’re not that important. A worthwhile read discussing the merits of Boeing getting back to basics in part by shedding its global services (BGS) division. My experience is that Boeing does not deliver any value in the supply chain for aftermarket parts, especially for the support of non-Boeing aircraft. Instead, its cumbersome and top-heavy org chart only exacerbate problems. The article mentions Aviall, A Boeing Company as perfect illustration of this concept at work.
