Raising Cane's app has one of the most engaged user bases in the #restaurantindustry, but it's not the kind of app you might expect. Their internal employee app is "where employees post about success stories, farewells, and everything in between." This app has helped build a "connected culture" that's driven 15 straight years of same-store sales growth! Hello fellow food nerds! We came, we learned, we laughed, we pickleballed. Below is the Science On Call: Tech Support for Restaurants recap of the 2024 Restaurant Leadership Conference. Here are some of the top insights we observed at this week's conference: 1. Embracing Authenticity: One prevailing theme was the importance of authenticity within restaurant marketing, operations & partnerships. Consumers crave genuine experiences and connections with brands. Restaurant operators can capitalize on this trend by staying true to their values, engaging with customers authentically, and showcasing their unique brand story. It's not a time to play it safe by emulating other brands; know thyself and your authenticity will shine through in your marketing strategy, innovation & recruiting. 2. Simplifying Operations: Another prominent topic discussed was the need to simplify operations in an increasingly complex industry landscape. Streamlining processes, leveraging technology for efficiency gains, and optimizing supply chain logistics were hot topics among industry leaders. By simplifying things like your tech stack, restaurant operators can reduce costs, improve productivity, and enhance the overall guest experience. Bonus is if you start to offload services (cough, like tech support!) your teams & leadership will be able to focus on the priorities and things you do best. 3. Evolution in the Post-2020 Age: The rapid evolution of technology continues to shape the restaurant industry. From voice ordering to AI-powered analytics and personalized marketing; technology is revolutionizing how restaurants operate and interact with customers. Embracing digital innovation is essential for staying competitive in today's market; but only when it makes sense for your brand and customer experience. Shout-out to THE Martha Stewart who shared the importance of evolving your brand authentically during her exciting keynote address. A dual set of expectations doesn't have to put immense pressure on restaurant leaders in the way it may seem on the surface. The way I have navigated this conundrum at Happy Joe's 🍕 is by holding close to the tenets of servant leadership. When leaders focus primarily on serving others, they can satisfy multiple responsibilities and be there for their team in ways they are needed at critical times. #RestaurantIndustry #Leadership #ServantLeadership

"Sloppy." "Messy." If that's what guests say about your food, are you instinctively concerned about the food quality? “When we saw anecdotal feedback that people thought it’s too messy, we took it as something we should change,” said Adam Robin, COO of Virtual Dining Concepts. “But when looking into the Tattle data, that menu item is often associated with high satisfaction.” High satisfaction! I love this point by Adam. How often do restaurants follow their "gut feelings" instead of relying on statistically significant evidence? Anecdotes can be misleading. The true picture only reveals itself when you have vast amounts of guest feedback data that's high-velocity, structured and actionable. While inflation may have caused Americans to scale back spending in some areas, dining was not one of them as I can attest from our results at Happy Joe’s 🍕. Looking at this new restaurant data from the past 4 years, (thank you, Statista!) restaurant sales are continuing to increase alongside price changes. This may reveal even more positive news about the economic prospects of the restaurant industry going forward, especially if inflation slows down in ways many economists are forecasting. #RestaurantIndustry #Growth #Innovation
